Whos fished one? Looking to use an electric trolling motor on it and use it for trout on some local reservoirs. 15'6". Are they as/more stable than a Jon boat?

They were once very common around here. My buddy has one, I'm thinking it's 13 foot and rated for a 5 hp but he has a 10 hp on it. We floated the Holston River below Cherokee dam a few years ago and it was very stable. I really liked it. It fished comfortably and was fast with the narrow bottom. I'd say the 15 footer would be great and you will probably really like it.

microskiff and customgheenoe have lots of posts on those and the similar River Hawk boats. Speed with a trolling motor will be determined by weight and length with lighter and longer being faster.

I haven't spent any time fishing out of one but it is my favorite small water duck boat for 2 hunters, dog and decoys, due to its stability.

I wouldn't call them more stable than a jon boat, especially a wide jon boat.

That said, I spent the majority of my 20's fishing out of one with a 9.9 attached.

Spent a ton of hours in one of them in my late teens and 20's, too. Very stable and quite stealthy. Also would not call them more stable than a jon boat.

For an inexpensive solution to flats fishing, they are the bomb. Sometimes, we would get out of the gheenoe and wade fish, dragging the gheenoe behind us tethered to a belt loop. Very stealthy on skittish redfish in skinny water. This worked very well. All of our tackle, coolers, lunch floating quietly along behind us.

I damn near sunk one on Westpoint Lake when a nice little storm blew up. Was a hell of a lot of fun.

Didn't catch a thing that trip except hell from my pop for skipping school and going fishing.Lol.
