Well the new boat works just fine fishing and tooling around the islands. Crabbing has been full limits every day, and we have only kept these huge buggers. Orcas around the boat make it seem small too!

Monster dungies indeed! Great pics JJ!

Tell me about your boat.

It's an 18 foot extended transom hewed craft pro V

With the extended transom it's actually more like a 20 foot inside dimensions. Also gives me a solid back wall to keep the back wash out. In that back wall is a giant SS live well. With a pump and drain.

It's got a 115 Yamaha and an 8 Honda it will go 45mph but that really sucks the fuel down. 4000rpm is exactly 25 mph and then I get about 6-7 mpg.

nice rig, there. While in Kodiak, I had a 22 ft hardtop ET, it was underpowered with the 115, but a good fish/camp/hunting boat. I always wanted to make a trip up to Shuyak State Park (north of Afognak) but never got to. I sold the boat to a friend when we left and he re-powered it with a 150, does great with it.

4 more feet with a hard top is a lot to ask of a 115.

I find I'm at 4000 rpm and 25 mph almost all the time. It's far better on fuel then running 5500 plus rpm an over 40 mph.

Agreed! Mine held 85 gallons when full, but of course I almost never ran it full. 18 kt was doable. fortunately there is really good fishing 20 minutes from the dock in Kodiak.
