Headed to Nags Head next week for a family vacation. I fish freshwater a lot, but am going to try some pier fishing & a nearby causeway. My grandson catches cats from my boat, but is excited to try some saltwater fishing & crabbing. Purchased a couple of saltwater spinning rods & reels & tackle. Also booked an inshore head boat trip at Hatteras. Any tips on fishing appreciated.

We went out with guide Doug Martin (out of Hatteras) years ago and he put us on nice drum and trout.
You might try some gotcha plugs on the piers early and late in the day for spanish. Hard to beat fresh shrimp for bait in the surf. Good luck!

Currents can be pretty strong. I have been on the head boat Miss Hatteras a few times during the off season and had to use 32 oz of lead to hold bottom. Got some nice groupers and red snapper, along with sea bass and trigger fish. Good luck.

Can't go wrong with half a mullet on a number 5 circle hook tied on a 5' 50lb leader with an egg sinker.

I like squid on a double hook croaker/snapper rig held down by an oz or two of lead.

Sitting near Milepost 10, got a house right on the beach.

Mon/Tues the surf was ROUGH. Plenty of beach erosion occurred yesterday. Today was more calm. One small spot from the surf yesterday. Nothing doing on mullet or squid, though.

Avalon pier in Kill Devil Hills has been doing really we lately especially when there is a wind out of the NE E or SE. Whalebone Tackle is right by the Little Bridge on the Causeway they can help you. TW's is great to deal with too.
