My wife and I will be celebrating our 10th anniversary in Punta Cana in August and we would like to do some fishing while we are there. She has never fished in the ocean and I have only bottom fished in the gulf once. Right now it is a toss up between deepsea fishing and inshore/reef fishing. I'm not sure which one would be best suited for being that both of us are very uneducated at this type of fishing. If we go deepsea fishing, we should be right in the middle of blue marlin season. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I'll never turn down a chance to fish Marlin
You need to realize Marlin are not a dime a dozen and there are no guarantees of hooking up with one but if you do you'll not soon forget it!
You may also catch some Mahi Mahi(dorado) which are great fighting and eating fish. Do your research as far as captains and boats
Good luck what ever you decide!
I agree with George.

If your wife catches a Marlin, it will be the best trip she ever remembers...if she spends half a day only watching the teasers behind the boat you will be branded a dumbass for life. laugh

I would look more towards the reef fish and inshore action. It should be a lot less expensive and you should also have a lot more action.

Get as many references for charters in the area as you can find.
Thanks for the advice guys!
OK, you can also DIY fish, either from the beach or wading, depending on location and available species. And, available species are about the same throughout the Caribbean.

Not saying don't get on a boat, but that you can add the DIY part. Good luck!
