Anyone have any experience building a large boat dolly? I have a 17' Spectrum. The dolly will be used to wheel the boat from a rented "garage" 100' to the "elevator" which lowers the boat into the water.

I have 6 1000lb casters. Tomorrow I'll buy some lumber and put something together. I'm thinking 6' long x 6" wide "bunks" that the hull will rest on. I'm still debating what to do between the casters and the bunks.

Any ideas on what sort of structure I should build to support the boat?
jmho- i don't think i'd be using wood for anything
other than carpeted bunks

It will be out of the weather 99.9% of the time.
i should've elaborated. i'd weld one or have one
welded from some steel tubing. it'd cost some more, but
you'd never have to worry with it coming apart
from being pushed around with your valuable boat
on it.

I built a similar project for my 12 foot boat. Worked out well people always say "where did you get that"????
My suggestion is design with larger wheels, so you can over come the small rocks and imperfections along the way. If you decide I am wrong then better have muscle or patience.
Best of luck
