Well, with the sportsmans shows all coming up it is time to try to finalize this years 24hrcf Africa hunt. Last years Cape Buff hunt was a roaring success by all accounts and there seemed to be interest in making Elephant the primary species for this years hunt. Is there interest in this still? Non trophy ele hunts are $11,900 this year for 10 days and Cape Buff plus plains game can be added readily. Cape Buff only is $9995 for 7 days. We have the option of hunting in the Sengwa Buffalo research area in a deluxe and cushy permanent type of camp but still in a very wild concession area or flying into a VERY remote tented camp in the lower Omay concession. While tented, this camp will still feature daily laundry service, good chefs, maids, waiters etc. and will be as comfortable as a tent camp can humanly be. Dates for those who previously stated sincere interest was mid July. What do those of you who are interested in going this year want to do? Lets get some feet to this thing and get dates and persons settled soon if we can. We still have Hippo, Croc, Lion and Leopard avaialble on quota as well. Who wants to go?

Mark,
Regarding dates heres something that could work for me. I have a wedding (Not my own) to attend on the 11th of July. I simply cannot miss that, but I can leave on the 14th. Allowing 2 days for travel plus the 16th for in-country travel gets us to the 17th. Hunt 17-26th, (10 days)in-country travel on the 27th and fly out on the 28th. This leaves a bit of wiggle room since I don`t know whether charters are needed at this time. These dates have me turning 44 in Zimbabwe but I`ll get over it.
Between the two possible locations my preference would be the fly-in, tented option. This is assuming that a suitable number of hunters are available to make the charter work. A eight hour truck ride wouldn`t faze me, but if Sengwa is the best option without flying that could work as well.It might ease scheduling a bit, with no flights to co-ordinate.
My main interest is the elephant and buffalo, with plains game as an incidental, if it happens it happens option.
Can this work be made to work.

Dates and animals are good to go for 2. Who else? \:\)

I have a new DVD and brocure etc. That I can send to interested parties. I will notify Tim and others in Zim of these dates right away. I will also suggest to him that we will likley have 4 to 6 again as I think we can round up that many from here. If there are two or so, then Sengwa is probably the best bet. DJ, are you interested also in the Ele and Buff combo? Non trophy Ele?

Mark,
I guess I should have said "Non-trophy elephant" instead of "elephant" for the sake of clarity.
My CZ .416 is a 5 shooter now, I got the floorplate from Wisner. Look-out ele!

Mark,
You showed me a copy of the article when we were in Zimbabwe, it may have been a draft. I also ordered a Gentry 3 position safety today, in the interest of making it match my .375. Besides, a guy spends so little time shooting on safari, and so much time trying not to shoot anyone. I just feel much more comfortable with a safety that locks the striker.
I'm going with 400 grain A-frame softs and banded solids in the .416, and 270 grain TSXs and banded solids in the .375 this time.

Well the stocks are still different, with yours being the American "American" pattern, and mine being the International "American" pattern. The cross-bolts are in different places as well. Otherwise pretty much the same thing, even if you do say "C Zee" and I say "C Zed".

Great rifle choices. A good solid is the way to go for rounds in the magazine in our experience on buff. In the spout AND in the tube on Elephant. You will see this and hear it espoused by more than one PH on the DVD that is on its way to you. I like the Barnes banded solids a lot but there are other good ones out there.

Gunbug,
Mine had the single factory cross-bolt through the wrist, I added a Talley crossbolt behind the recoil lug with the B Square jig for insurance. There are so many internet stories about split stocks, plus I like the look.It can't hurt, even though I put 1200-1300 rounds through my .375 without harm before I put the bolt in.
I believe that the American stock is getting cross-bolts from the factory now, where it had none at all at one time. The "American" pattern put out by CZ USA isn't the same one that we get up here. It is thicker, straighter and a lot heavier. The Bavarian stock appears to be the same as the world wide version. I'm starting to like that one myself. It fits me better than my own.

Model 70 guy,,,,, I have a Bavarian style stock taken from my 416 when I bought the American stock. Already glassed including the recoil plate glassed in. Need it?

Gunbug, My american style stock had no recoil bolts. I had two installed as well as had a hardened steel rod put into the pistol grip of the stock. A bit of overkill, but that is my way.

Mark,
Sure I'll give that a try. Those droopy stocks fit much like a Weatherby. Same drop at heel as my stocks, but with the comb raised for a better cheek-weld.Do you still have my address on file?

martinbns,
Come-on, ya only live once. I've just sent in my holiday request a couple minutes ago, so assuming approval I'm committed to doing something during that time. With or without the Campfire I want to go elephant hunting, and this seems to be my most realistic option of doing it. A perfect world would see me tracking 80 pounders in Botswana with a H&H double, but I can have non-trophies in Zim with a CZ.

You can track 80 pounders in Bots all you want, what's stopping you?

Mostly money, or lack of suffient quantities. $12,000 elephant hunts are a lot easier to pull off than $40-60000 or more hunts.
