First, I'll try and post a pic tonite.
Picked up my Mk XXII last week and got'er to the range Sunday, for too short a range session.
I mounted a M8 6x42 Leupie on it, I have not had the paralax adjusted. She's a perfect match for my Mk V Deluxe in 7-08. Some observations for those who haven't seen one up close and personal. Fit and finish are very nice. The stock isn't nearly as figured as a Mk V Deluxe, but isn't meant to be. Weatherby Mk XXII stocks are to be of the same grade as the Vangard Deluxe stocks. Bolt knob is plastic ... not wild about that, but not a deal breaker the polymer seems to be rather tough. Bolt lift is very short ... very Mk V-ish. Only real grip on looks and handling is the bolt handle could use to be bent down where it clears the stock. While I'm sure this is fine on a target gun, I think a hunting rifles bolt handle shouldn't stick out quite so far ... but again NOT a deal breaker.
Feeding is a little rough, but it is a new rifle and was getting smoother as the range session progressed. Extraction on the otherhand was a total PITA!! 2-3 extractions per magazine (of FIVE) failed to clear the magazine area. I believe some were popping straight up and failing back down into the magazine area some never had the gumption to make it that far. A few did manage to come out of the right side of the rifle, but didn't have much zing on them regardless with my efforts pulling the bolt back at varying speeds. I only wiped the bolt down prior to using it .. hopefully with a couple shots of gun scrubber and some light RemOil, this problem may go away.
The trigger, left some to be desired ... not what a expected on a rifle of this quality. Didn't use a pull gauge prior to the range session (didn't want to dry fire it ... being a rimfire and all), I now have a few spent casings. The trigger pull may have been as advertised (2.5 #), but there was a lotta creep in it. Much more than expected. But the trigger is adjustable down to 2# (min safe listed by Weatherby) and has a sear engagment screw that I will dable with.
Sighted it in at 25 yards with Federal Bulk and thing were looking good ... no measurements, but still looking good. Moved to 50 yards and continued to sight in and by the end of my work groups expanded to OVER an inch ... not much but still over. Got serious with my shooting (by my own admission, I was not a rock steady as I have been in the past ... not that I'm all that steady to begin with ) Groups with Federal Auto Match, and CCI Green Tag were in the 0.7 range and even with bulk Fed. it wasn't much worse (0.8-ish). When I got serious all groups were less than 0.8. Still not nearly as good as the test target, which was around 0.2! Less than 0.5 and I'll be happy. I believe these groups are easily achievable with a properly adjusted scope (don't know how much variability this introduced) and some trigger work! If I get the extraction issues figured out she's a keeper, but I was honestly expecting no issues outta the box. OH WELL .. sigh ... I was hoping for a little better than an expensive 77/22.
Overall, it is a fine firearm and worth the $775 sticker. Took awhile for the consignment items to go, but I think she's worth the wait ... time will tell for sure ...
I'll try and get some pics, didn't save the targets, but hopfully if the weather is nice I'll have her out again this week-end! Here's to crossin' the fingers.

George, congrats on the new rifle! Hope you get the feeding and trigger worked out. They're definitely beautiful, but man, that's a chunk 'o change for .22lr! I about crapped when I paid $425.00 for my Remington 541T-HB. After the first range session though, it was a little easier to swallow.

George, Thanks for the report. Let us know if the ejection problems clear up. Still saving my "gun money" here, but I DO have a 6X42 Loupie that has been parallax adjusted to 50 yards, to go on a new Weatherby! (grin!) Virgil B.

George, The Leupold 3x9 EFR is a great scope. I have one on a Sako Finnfire. The neat thing about them is, the parallax adjustment goes down to 15 yards. Great for small targets at close distances on 9x. Since I already have a 6x42mm that is parallax set for 50 yds. that is what I'll use. (when I save enough for my new Weatherby!) P.S. That's one GOOD LOOKING RIFLE! Virgil B.

Given the metal work is by Anschutz, I'd expect an accurate unit. Should be easy to remove the firing pin for trigger pull assesments. I have an Anschutz and it takes longer to remove the bolt from the action that to jerk out the firing pin. Is the 2-stage trigger an option with the Weatherby make up? I have grown extremly fond of their 1 ounce trigger.

George, That was an excellent review and it reflects my experience with a MK XXII exactly! I had the same ejection issues and the same mediocre accuracy results with a bunch of different ammo, My rifle seemed very well made, fit and finish was excellent, it even had a really nice piece of wood, but the deciding factor of any rifle I keep in my gun safe is it has to function properly and satisfy me in the accuracy department. My rifle did neither, So like many other rifles I've owned in the past that didn't perform "up to snuff" I sent my MK XXII on it's merry way and sold it cheap. I've owned several of the Anschutz 64 actions over the years and they all had this same ejection problem, You'd think a company as proud of their rifles as Anschutz would have fixed this glaring problem by now. It took several bad experiences with these rifles to do it but I've finally learned my lesson, I'll never buy another Anschutz with the 64 action.....Good luck with your rifle..........547.

Sorry about the ejection problems. As to the accuracy, do you know what ammo the test target was fired with? IMHO if you want to shoot in the .2s you will have to use something on the order of Ely Tenex EPS or Lapua Midas M or Midas L. My CZ shoots way better than I have any right to expect with Midas L but my wifes CZ shoots best with Ely (it does NOT like Lapua). I have had decent results in both rifles with RWS R50 and Wolf Match Gold.
For what its worth I had a Kimber for a while but got rid of it because it could not shoot with either of the CZs dispite a .24" test target.

Nope ... they don't list the factory ammo used, at least if they did I missed it. I honestly think my limiting problem is most likely the paralax issues with my scope. Not 100%, but as she's shooting now with relatively cheaper ammo, I'm happy. While shootin' the small groups is fun, I'm happy hitting the targets free hand ..... which is the purpose of this rifle ... practice for my center fire rifles.

Took awhile but I finally sent her back to Weatherby to get the ejection issues conquered .... time will tell.

Since the metal work is actually Anschutz, I wonder if a guy could attach an Anschutz 2 stage trigger. I have an Anschutz and after using their 1-ounce trigger, I'd like to put one of those or a set trigger on every unit I own. Shooting is truly a pleasure when one does not have to struggle for good technique.

George, (if I may?) I'm anxiously awaiting the results of the ejection issue. Thanks for being our test case. Did you have to get a return authorization? Mine may go back for accuracy issues and ejection problems.

Ron ... Yeah, I called them and discussed my issues and the fellow said it sounded like warranty work and gave me a RA#, so back it went. Took me a couple weeks to get it done. Took it to a UPS store and when the lady asked what was in it (only after I asked for insurance), they wouldn't take it ... regardless of UPS policy. So I had to go to the USPS ... piece of cake there. I have high hopes that Weatherby will make it right. I have heard severeal stories about ejection issues with this rifle ... but I think of all the thousands that don't have issues. Hopefully all will be well, I'll keep all informed here about my progress.
