Help Last year I made the best pie in the world. I have lost the recipe. I don't know if I got it here or not. It had a little nutmeg in it. Can anyone help? Thanks
Denny

I have started making rhubarb pie this spring. My late mother used to make it the way I wanted which is sour. The strawberry/rhubarb versions found for sale are much too sweet for me. None have much fruit in them either.
I use a store bought deep dish pie shell and cut up four cups of rhubarb. Then I mix up 1/2 cup of sugar and four tablespoons of flour and sprinkle it well from the bottom of the crust all the way through as I add the fruit.
I start it at 425F for 10 minutes and then at 350F until it bubbles which is about an hour total.
The last pie that I made yesterday has 2/3 cup of sugar and its a little too sweet for me.

I use the one in "Betty crocker's Pie and Pastry Cookbook". pp. 106 - 107.
Never not been good.

I always thought Rhubarb was just a fancy name for bloodshot celery?

Our rhubarb isn't up very far yet, this year I intend to do a lot more with it. Made chutney and relish last year, in addition to the multitude of pies, cakes and breads.
M ++++++++++++++++++++++++
And I can personally attest to you all that it was delicious. My first ever sampling of Rhubarb chutney and a pie.
Thanks again for the kindness!!
If you all get MT's recipe....you are good to go! No offense Sam, but I know of MT's abilities in the Rhubarb department.

Since the grocery stores have rhubarb I have made up four pies so far this spring. I have the sugar level right for myself. My wife will not even taste one as I like them sour.
I used store bought pie shells and they are easy but there is a flavor they have that I don't prefer. Perhaps some other brand of shell would satisfy my but I have not found it yet.
Since I made up the pies I gained even more weight. Half of the last pie is still in the fridge. I just have to get my weight down and making desserts is not the way to do it for me.

Miss T....My wife and all our kids 4 plus 2 gf/bfs are spending a week in Cancun from June 30-july 7th,instead. My son and I, who are desperate to come to Alaska, are considering August before he goes back to college.
If I didn't agree to this one last, all-together vacation, I would suffer big on the marital front.
My daughters BF got orders to Iraq in August so this family vacation together got shot to the forefront. If August is till doable, you and Art will be my first contacts.

Try this very simple, and very quick recipe for pie pastry. There is enough dough to make two open topped pies, or one with upper and lower crust. The pastry alone is worth eating, and it goes well will all sorts of fillings. If you want to use the recipe for a savory pie, just cut down on the sugar.
Pie Pastry in the Food Processor
Two cups sifted AP flour ½ Teaspoon Salt 1 Tablespoon Sugar 1 Stick Butter, chilled, cut into pieces 3 Tablespoons Crisco or Lard, chilled 5 or 6 Tablespoons Ice Water
Place the dry ingredients in the Food Processor Add the butter and shortening Pulse about 30 times With the Processor running, slowly add in the water, until a dough ball forms
Remove dough from the Food Processor, form into two flat discs. Wrap in plastic wrap, and freeze, or place in refrigerator for half an hour. Roll out, and use for pie.
