Looking at going to Maui in February for a couple weeks and would like to do a couple charters. I've never done any charters other than halibut so don't have experience with salt water fishing. Anyone have any experience and suggestions on charters to use. Thanks.

We're headed to Maui next Feb as well and i'll be hitting a charter again. I went for the first time in March of '07, didn't catch anything but did watch another fisherman hook into a 350 blue marlin and had another catch a 30 lb mahimahi. That was all the fish we got into, unless you want to count the little 3 lb tuna I caught for bait and a shark ended up with half that in his belly. I've been told the fishing that time of year isn't the best but it's still fishing. I had a great time and it was cheaper than a halibut charter. I plan on going twice while I'm there. I went with Start Me Up charters and will probably use them at least once, might also consider the Hinatea. Keep in mind that the charters will keep any fish you catch unless you make other arrangements prior to fishing, that is how they make their money.

Thanks AkMtnHntr,
I looked them up on the web and looks reasonable. I may do a share or spring for the whole boat, have to see what shakes out as we plan our trip. I'm looking at being there from the 18-28th, still working out the details.

We'll be there from 21 Feb to 7 March, I thought about booking the whole boat as well but am still undecided. It would be nice to get hooked up and be the only fisherman on board, pretty much guaranteed to fight whatever's hooked. You could also book a 1/2 or 3/4 day and spring for the boat, not quite as expensive that way.

this might sound crazy, but have you considered splitting the boat together since y'all with both be there the same time?
