I'll fix them. The river can stop flowing, every mayfly in the river can stop emerging, and every trout can stop rising. They think I'll take up golf or something. Well, I have news for them, they are not the only fish in the sea.

Thanks so much. There's still a few around. I'm trying the Wood again next week. I hear there are a few little sulfurs around. Until then: Today's soup's feature ingredient....

BTW, I didn't realize I was so fat and out of shape until I saw my picture holding up the fish.

Mmmmmm! I just love soup...you are making me hungry! One thing I miss about my childhood growing up in NJ was the saltwater fishing. I told lots of my buds up here in cow-country that you have never experienced fishing until you have done saltwater. There is just something about the smell of the ocean and the sounds of the waves. And don't go callin' yourself fat either! You're OK in my book and besides; God loves ya just the way you are!

Nice halibut. I know we have Atlantic Halibut but I've never seen one. All we see is the steaks in the fish market. I swear they taste a little bit like Windex. Is there an ammonia flavor because they are a cold water fish? I know they're good to eat for the Omega 3's. Oh well. I put a recipe for rockfish chowder in the food section if anyone's hungry. I made rockfish chowder and smoked a bunch of chicken thighs for pulled chicken sandwiches at our club's work party today.
BTW, QTip, I grew up casting from the beach down the street. Fishing from bridges and docks all over town was real big. I dug clams (quahogs) with my Brother in HS. Now, I've been fishing from my own boat for about 20 yrs starting with that 18' wooden skiff. I do pretty well too. I consider myself to be a pretty competent Bay Man.

Shrapnel,
That looks like doormat fluke I used to catch...except on steroids! Real nice fish!
rob,
Used to fish Barneggat Bay (sp?) in NJ a lot when I was a teen. Seen the bottom of the boat filled with spring flounder (yummy!) or bushels of blue claw crabs. Gotta love it! I'll check out your chowder recipe too!

I've been catching the schoolies on clousers: white and chartreuse bucktail with a few peacock hearls on top. It's the fly for these parts. These guys were caught on whole live menhaden. I'll be catching schoolie blues on a fly - 10 weight salt rodder soon. They take forever to get in but they're fun! I haven't seen a mayfly or trout rise in over a month.
