Just picked up my Remmy R15 CS. This is the first flattop receiver I've had. I'm wanting to order a set of Warne Maxima rings, but I'm unsure of the height I need. I would like to avoid the ordering-returning-reordering scenerio, so can anyone give a hand. I'm 6'1 and bout 215 lbs if that helps. Thanks.

What scope you plan on putting on it?

Here's a bushmaster flattop with a LaRue Tactical quick detacable rail, and Warne Maximas.

** Most important thing here is if you can't mount he scope a bit forward you are normally a bit crowded for eye relief.

IMO you need to first use an extended riser like the LaRue Tactical pictured above to both add height and length for decent eye relief. My particular one is from Rock River and is what they call the Scout Rail www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=317

I use the Warne Tactical Rings in the Extra High size on top of the riser. These rings are .770" high
Warne Maxima Extra High rings are .650" high but that probably is close enough.

This is just about right and the same height as a hi-riser/ring combo I previously used until I got the extended rail for better eye relief. Once I went to my new setup my hit ratio on jackrabbits with that rig went up considerably, so correct height and eye relief is very important.

I'm not sure on the scope just yet. I'm thinking of a VX III 2.5X8X40, or a VXII 2-7. I usually have an extra scope around, but that's no the case right now.

I like the loks of that Larue rail. It looks solid and like its good quality. I'll check it out thanks.

Okie we are kinda in the same deal but I hunt out west along the south canadian river in dewey county OK. I brought a dpms flattop and just got back from up there on its first outing. I've got the Eotech on mine and it worked like a dream amongst about a herd of 12 hogs. Took out the big sow with the first shot and put lead in five others with a twenty shot clip. A big sow stopped and looked back after I was out of bullets. I am thinking a 6.8 is going to be on order soon.

The LaRue is what I'll probably be ordering very soon, to replace a broken B-Square unit.

It kinda bums me that I have to have all the extra "accessories" to get that height. Seems like it might not be as rigid. we'll see I guess. The rifle is way too cool not to!

Thanks guys!

BTW-I hunt in Dewey county occasionally, around the town of Faye. Big deer and few hunters as a rule. Lots of yotes to be had. They're a little naive too, easy killin.

look at jp enterprises mount.. it gives extension and elevation and is lightweight and good looking. They build excellent products About 150 dollars I do not like hanging too much junk to on a rifle. I have also used Leupold qrw with a 3x9 Leupold . It is configured so as to get eye relief although not much elevation. I like to keep it all close together.

I learned the hard way by using medium-height rings on the receiver flattop rail. Then the hard way again by just using the one-piece Hi-Riser/Rings set. Really the extension/riser and rings are very rigid and work terrific if you use decent quality stuff. Be sure and use blue loctite on all the screws to keep everything together in the long haul.

There are a number of one piece mounts that work better than a combonation of bases and rings. Model 1 sales has a cheap one, RRA has one a little more expensive and Armalite has one that is bulletproof for $80 bucks or so. If you want the best get the LaRue LT104 one piece mount.

I think I'll go with the LaRue and a set of Warne Tactical rings. Who does the best job with the camo dip these days?

I just received my LaRue one piece ring/base combo. It is very well made and the guys at LaRue are top notch. They were very helpful and knew exactly what I needed when I called.

Glad you went with the one piece. I think you'll be very happy with your choice.

I'm guessing you're from Oklahoma??? Which part?

It just so happens that I got my one piece LaRue mount today for a 1 inch scope. I have already installed it, and a Troy folding rear sight on my Bushmaster M4. On a rifle like the Remington, espacally since it doesn't have a front sight, I don't think there is a better mount for a scope on an AR-15.

On my M4 This mount puts the scope centered on the iron sight line. If I choose a 3 power or higher fixed or variable scope I don't think the front sight will be noticable, but if I go with a 1.5 x 5 Leupold or even a 2x7 ( my favorite) I will see the front sight in the scope on the low settings. This may or may not bother me, but if it does, Larue makes 5/8" spacer I could mount under the one piece mount, but I hate to add that if I don't have to, because I like the scope higth as is for confortable shooting and I want to keep the weight down. I have not decided what power of scope I am going to get for this gun yet. If I put a 3x9 on, I see no problem, and I guess I could just take it off for extreme close range use or add an additional close range electronic sight. However, I like idea of a 1.5x5 lumminated Leupold.

Later on I am going to maybe move the LaRue one piece to another gun I am building simular to the Remington but It will have a gas block on the front to hold a fold down front sight, then it will be perfect in that application.

I've got Frisco petes set up on a 6.8 setup with a weaver 1 X 3 classic. It comes up to the shoulder with an 87 foot field of view but will be a month or so before taking it to Okla to shoot and try out. The eotech on the 223 has a 5\8 riser under it and fits perfect when it comes up to the shoulder. I ordered the Tubb flat buffer spring to reduce the recoil on the 6.8 without even firing it as the wife is a shooter\hunter also. Okie the pigs along the river around Faye are where they were first found in Dewey county and now they are everywhere. Groendykes turned them loose on there property down by Geary years ago.

Lastmohecken, LaRue also makes a 1.93" mount just like their 1.5". I have one of these on a light weight that still has the FSB and a Leupold 1.5-5 scope. No need to add a spacer.

You are correct that above 3 power you can't see the FSB with the regular mount but I did notice that it reflected the sun back into my scope if everything was just right. I use Troy flip ups on my other guns with the regular 1.5" mount.

Also noted, if you run a 30MM scope they tend to sit higher that a 1" and pose less problems so you might not need a taller mount.

TWR,

Yes, I saw that mount and wondered how well it would work, I might have to give that a try.
