Hey everyone how you doing?

I recently got my girlfriend into shooting. She is currently shooting my Marlin .30-30 336. Unfortunately only being 100 pounds the hard recoil pad behind 170 grainers is not very nice to her little boney(sp?) shoulder.

What would be a good replacement pad for it? Should I go slip on or pre-fit?

Does anyone have brands/models?

Thanks,

Matt

Mat, go with a slip-on.

Do you have a slip on that would fit it well that you could suggest looking into.?

Thanks,

Matt

The small Limbsaver slip on fits great.

Will the slip-on pad lengthen the pull too much for her?

Too long a pull will make recoil worse for her... I'd think about the fit of the gun. If you don't want to alter the length of the stock because you use the rifle, then it might pay to buy a cheapy birch stock, cut it down to fit her and install a quality recoil pad for her when she is using the gun. Just a thought, I don't know how often you use the gun, or, how much you like this girl! She might not be around long enough to fool with the stock swap - LOL! Up to you... ;\)

MOGC thanks for the help!

Shes a keeper, and it is her rifle.

The slip on will probably be the way to go. Right now the rifle fits her WELL, and the one and a half inch won't make or break.

What size slip on do you think will fit best. Also, what are my choices. I tried a slip on pachmyre(sp?) pad and it wouldnt go over the sling swivel.

Thanks,

Matt

You can go with a PAST recoil shield (Google "Past recoil"). They are not too expensive (under $30) and she can use it when she shoots any rifle. You also could go with the managed recoil ammo, Remington I know for sure makes it for the 30/30. I also have bought a cheap second hand butt stock and cut it back and installed a Pacmayr Decelerator pad on rifles for my sons when they were first starting out.

Do it right and get a nice 1 inch grind to fit pad and have the stock cut to fit her. If she is only 100 pounds she must be pretty darn short and if the LOP is incorrect shooting will not be much fun for her.
