I thought this forum might have some good answers to what bullets work well for deer when run at very reduced velocity.
I would like to work up a reduced velocity load for deer that will impact between 1200 and 1500 fps. Which bullets open well but don't blow apart at those velocities?

Dober NBT's might be a great choice given what they do at higher velocities, they might open perfectly at these slower velocities.

I also like my 250 Keiths (Beartooth bullets) out of my M29.

I shot a big Russian Boar a couple years back with a 41 magnum revolver with a muzzel velocity of 1400 fps or there abouts using a sierra 210 gr. JHP,hog was hit at about 40 yards right behind the shoulder and the bullet left the hog behind the opposite shoulder leaving and exit opening the size of a golf ball or so,ventilated the hog nicely, the hog ran about 80 yds and crashed head first into a tree and was DOA,Ive always liked Sierra bullets for taking game, thier jackets appear somewhat soft but they always open well and take game cleanly.......

I have had better luck with Hornady SST than NBT bullets, either should work, use what shoots best in your gun.

besides the nbt, a berger should work at those velocitys also.

At those speeds, I'd go '06 for the bigger hole if it were me.
Heck... at those speeds from an '06... use a FP bullet, say 150 grains, designed for the 30-30. It's going to work better than a NBT I bet, which is designed for higher speeds.
Just an opinion, but I've used 150-gn FP's from a 30-30 and they are pretty convincing on deer...

How fast does a 257 Roy spit out a 100 grain accubond? I seen a Coyote hit at over 400 yards with the Roy shooting accubonds and it worked nice. Not sure if it was 100 grain or not, but it was one of those 100 plus grain accubond. And I figure at 400 yards it should have lost some of that speed when it hit.
I like the accubond a lot. great bullet and I have seen some good game taken with it with minimal damage.

Seafire Jr is migrating to an 06 he was given for his birthday this year... depending on the distance that you are wanting the bullet to travel before it reaches that impact velocity...
if it is woods hunting at say 150 yds, or 30/30 ranges, I am loading him the Speer 150 grain FN..
for general hunting, I am loading him up Nosler 150 grain BTips this year...although I might consider the 125s to see what they can do also...
the load is going to be 24 grains of Blue Dot.. he has shot some of both at 100 yds so far, and a 4 power scope.. and both bullets were pretty darn accurate.. the Nosler being better of course...
penetration thru some trees at various distances has been pretty darn impressive also...
the rifle is a Browning A Bolt with synthetic factory stock...

Dober,
I have used both NBT and SST in my 243 and 7mm-08 and in both guns the SST is the more accurate bullet. Thats all I meant, terminal performance should be similar between the bullets.

Anything in a RN works well also, as do varmint bullets at these velocities...
you'll have a lot of guys argue with you on the varmint bullets, but I'd bet most of the time they have zero experience to base their claims on... they are only spouting what they have heard..

Any 58 caliber Maxi-ball at those velocities kill whitetail bucks fairly dead.

I've loaded 30 caliber 125 gr Noslet BTs for a friend to use in a 30-30 Contender. MV ~ 2200 fps, not sure of impact velocity, as shots ranged from 40 - 80 yards, but it has worked worked well both on white tailed deer and smallish (150 lb) hogs.
I don't know if this helps you or not. My experience FWIW.
