Hey everyone. Turning the big 18 tommorow, and I am planning to buy a scope with a bit of my money. Looking for a scope for my guide gun. I have been looking into the leupolds. Consider the Shotgun Muzz 2.5-7x33 (I believe)? Or the 1-4x22

Thanks,

Matt

I think you are on the right track. The biggest sin I see with the Guide gun is too large a scope. Leupolds will offer more eye relief which can be a relief... Of course I have a scout scope on mine so I really don't know what I am talking about.

Happy B-day.

SuperCrewd - with a Scout Scope - has one of the better setups on a Guide Gun. I tried several different scopes on mine before settling on a 2.5x compact Leupold. Have been happy with it for several years and don't see changing. Light. Compact. Great eye relief - and how the heck big do I need an elk to be anyway? \:\)

Enjoy that Guide Gun. They're a ton of fun!

Regards, Guy

I've got a Leupold VX-II 1-4x20mm on my 1977-vintage Marlin 1895 and for woods deer and black bear hunting I can't see what could be much better.

You think the 1-4 would be a better choice then the 2.5-7? Will the 2.5 be to big for the guide gun?

The Leupold VX-II 2-7x33mm is another fine scope that would work well on the Marlin 1895G. It actually has slightly more eye relief than the 1-4x20mm. I just haven't seen a need for more than 4x with the kind of hunting I do.

A fixed 4x would be great too. It is amazing what kind of shooting you can do with one. Here is the 2x scout scope at 50 and 100 yards. (reads like a LeverEvolution ad but I usually handload)

mounted down the barrel?

I Kind of want a variable power only because there is an antler law where I hunt.

I will probably look at the 2-7X33 Shotgun Scope or the 1-4X20 and call it good enough. Do you think this will be short enough? I don't want it to look out of place.

Wiktor Is yours mounted down the barrel?

Are you talking about a Scout scope when you say "mounted down the barrel"? Neither will give you the ability to properly count the points if that is your intention.

Vx II 1-4x20 length 9.2 wt 9 oz eye relief 3.8
vx II 2-7x33 11 10.5 3.8
fx II 4x33 10.5 9.3 4.0

All very similar. I prefer a heavier reticle as they are easier to see in the thick stuff...

No, mine is mounted over the receiver.I used to have a straight tube variable Burris on mine, I think a 1.5X to 5X. I didn't like it because it didn't transmit enough light for me when it started getting dark so I went with the 4X. It gathers light much better, is lightweight, and can still be mounted in low rings.Gun balances very well with it.There are antler restrictions here to.It seems 4X is good enough at the closer ranges these guns shoot.

Don't go with the shotgun scope, as the parallax is set at 75 yards. Go with the VX-II 2-7x33mm. I learned this lesson on my 444 Marlin. With the shotgun scope it shot about 3-4 inch groups at 100 yards; with the VX-II three shots at 100 yards all touch with everything else being the same.

I used a weaver base and Burris low Zee Rings. When not using Burris Signature rings (which only come in medium and High) I highly recommend lapping them. They do work well though!

Even yet, I can buy a VX-1 with the 2-7. . . The parallax is not 75 yards with that.

Thanks for the help guys.
