Anyone hunt there. And how have you done in the past? Seen three good bulls there last night.

LOT'S "o" elk. get off the road. walk in gates, hunt the cut's, big timber on the north, hard to get too drainages, yada, yada, yada. it's pretty thick 300 super duper mag isn't needed. just get out of your truck (there are a pile of road "hunters"), and for christ sake get off the danm road. 3 cut past a closed gate is usually pretty good. you may want to invest in a bike. sorry can't tell my hidy holes.

Tough country. I love the locked gates because it keeps "hunters" on their fourth beer away from me

I went to college near that unit and spent alot of time hiking in the area. It is deceptively big country because the cover is so close, it is easy to cover several miles and never reach a clearing.

i forget who's quote it is but "brag about how close you got not how far you shot", says it best about coastal hunting. deer are easy, elk take some work. get away from the roads. good luck! pdx you huntin bow or rifle?

I have hunted Saddle Mtn. several times, there was good numbers of elk back in those days.
You have got some good advice, all I would add is to MAKE SURE THERE IS NO ACTIVE LOGGING WHERE YOU WANT TO HUNT!
Most of the timber companies allowed hunting on the weekends, but closed significant areas during the week.
And they do patrol their areas!

Bigrock when was the last time you hunted deer in Saddle Mountain they are no longer easy to hunt. Heck the the numbers are at thier lowest in years. Last year we hunted saddle mt and between four of us were lucky to see 2 or 3 deer in a day and that is after a 6-8 mile walk behind closed gates. I have bow hunted it for years the elk are there but it becomes a challenge when they open the roads get in the crap if you need a flashlight your in the right spot. grin!!
