Just picked this up from my smith the other day and finished mounting the scope and cleaning it up tonight. Will give it a shoot in morning trying some new powders recommended by some members here. Only used 4895 until now for this cartridge.
Rick will be painting the stock Instrument Tan with black webbing
after I play with it for awhile!

People talk about gun porn - peering into your gunsafe in that picture makes feel like a voyeur...those are some fine looking rifles there...

Details.
Winchester 70 SA push feed, trued
McMillian 70 Hunter, bedded
Williams one piece bottom
Douglas barrel finished at 24"
Talley's and a Leupy 6x
Will post some more pics when the stock comes back painted from Rick.

Shot two loads so far this morning after sighting in. Varget and 4320 both look promising.

Enjoy your new rifle. I am a long time .358 W. fan. To each his own ok!

To me the action should be CRF, the barrel is too heavy and long, the scope is not right for that cartridge, etc.

Savage 99
I'm with ya, did hold out for awhile looking for a Classic SA with out luck. The push feed was got for a buck and a quarter like new. The rest is the way I prefer it.
My other 358 Win is a CRF, an origanal.

*LMAO*

Savage99, we can all certainly understand your need for a CRF while hunting Connecticut's dangerous game from behind a hay bale.

Nice rifle Nathanial - as is. \:\)
Got a couple of 358 Winchester's myself - on Remington push feeds. <grin>

I think any .358, is a good .358, and good on ye for bringing it into the world, Nathanial!

I personally wouldn't have put a 24" tube on it. But then even my 20" tube seems long some places I drag my .358.

Any idea what load you'll be running in that bad boy?

Nathanial, Is that the clearance barrel from Midway? Looks real fine on there. Those push feed 70s are typically great shooters. Good luck with it.

Would that be the one involving a granny and a baby carriage?

The barrel was a clearance item from Midway. To me a barrel shorter than 24 inch just dont look right and they ride around in a saddle scabbard anyway, not much for really thick timber around here. I have used 47 grains of H-4895 and 225 Partitions for years but used up what I had. I hope Varget, RL15 or H322 produces a good load as I use alot of it in other cartridges and buy in 8 pounders. Did try some loads with IMR 4320 to sight in/break in, not bad but they could have used a little more coal.

Push feed model 70's usually shoot better.
Unless your laying on your back, shooting the rifle upsidedown, I don't see the advantages of a CRF. My 700's all have Sako or AR extractors (they work fine).
Nice 358 !! A gunsmith has had my 99 for over a year. It is on it's way back now as a 358.
