I just got a picture of a 540 class B&C bull elk from some friends of ours who live on the ranch the bull came off of..
The ranch is a Texas Ranch near Marathon, Texas, it is 150,000 ac. ranch, low fenced that supports a great herd of big elk..They only shoot very few bulls off this ranch..It is near where I was raised..
He is just unbelievealbly huge...
I can't post pictures but I can send one to anyone thats interested in seeing what a 540 bull looks like..I have seen a lot of elk in my life both on the ground and mounted but never one like this big boy.

So this bull came off a place in Texas and you know which ranch? I sure would like to see a pic of this bull and hope you can email pic of it to someone here and they can put it up.
The story sounds kind of familar I would say.
Does the pic have a couple of fellas in it, perhaps a father/son?
Thx Dober

I'd like to see it too. The bull propably came from the Glass Mountains near Marathon. I have seen some MONSTER bulls come from that area. If it did, these ARE NOT GAME RANCHED ELK!!!!!!!!!
They were released by TPWD I believe many yrs ago to restablish wild elk in that area which elk were once native to. Those mountains in the Big Bend area are actually the southern most tip of the Rockies, many people forget or don't realize that.
I know the BOSS ranch has quite a few. These are wild elk.
But I think you have to give both legs, your first born and your entire family inheritance to hunt them. In other words 99.95% of us will never get to.

This story has been all over the internet. I am told it was a pen raised bull from Canada, not Marathon, Tx.
Regardless, it's not a B&C bull, since it was pen raised and killed under conditions that would not qualify it for the book.
I personally would prefer to shoot a cow or a small bull in the wild, but you may prefer to shoot a larger animal under less difficult conditions.

atkinson,
Now the holier than thou condisending starts.
I guess some of our .com friends can't read your post. They miss the little part about you knowing them and the size of the ranch. They probabloy don't know an elk can clear a six foot fence if inclined.
Here is you post again:

This guy would have been better off shooting a beef cow. Just as impressive in my eyes. Eats a bit better. Ive got no beef with a guy shooting on Ranches,(Game Farms). Just don't try a equalize what he's done with hunting wild elk in any way. BTW the field where that elk was killed in is no way attached to a 150,000 acres of free range. I've seen views of the pics with the fences and houses in the background. We banned the hunting on game farms in Montana, and rightly so.

This the one? Looks like a fencer...
Did Ray send you that pic, or did you pull it off the net someplace.

I can think of a lot of elk hunts that cost a lot less and still have a good chance at a trophy bull (plus a couple Africa hunts too). Then again I doubt he's interested in hunting, only the shooting and bragging part.

Ringman, I read the story over a year ago, and hence, I am skeptical about this story. And the photo of the 540 class bull indicates it was taken here in Colorado, which is again different from the originating story.
You can like it, or not, I do not care.
