anyone try one of these? With a mount less than an ACOG TA31DOC and has 1 power for close range shooting!

I have the 2.5-10 NXS and love it. I tend to do more distance shooting though. However, a lot of guys rave about the 1-4 because it is a true 1x for close quarters, and yet 4x allows a person to shoot at distance. It would be a great scope for sure. I'd love to build up a .300 Whisper AR, and the 1-4 is probably what would get put on it.

I want to get into large caliber long range shooting and need some advice about a scope for a 50 cal. I am considering. Is the 2.5-10NXS a good choice for the 50 BMG?
The gun I am looking at is at http://ultralite50.com and it has a rail for mounting. If the NXS is a good choice(or whatever becomes the choice) how do I determine fit for this 50 cal?

Check out the Trijicon Accupoint 1.5-4; I've got one on a flattop AR and it's very quick and relatively inexpensive.

Mikebook here is what I have come up with as decent low to mid power optics

Leupold M4 1.5 x 5 with SPR/illuminated $1000.00 with mount
good reticle, good dependability, good optics, short battery life, 1.5 not so good for faster target acquisition scope is better at longer ranges

Horus Talon 1-4 Illuminated $1000 or so with the mount
busy reticle, good dependability, good optics, very short battery life, very good ranging reticle, but not so hot or fast at close ranges

Trijicon Accupoint 1.5-4, $900 or so with mount,
good reticle, good optics, no batteries required, some say optics are a bit distorted at the low power, I know where I can get one for $400.00

Nighforce NXS 1-4, $1300 or so with mount,
good reticle, good optics, short battery life, people write that the illuminated reticle is not bright enough

ACOG TA31DOC $1400 with mount
good reticle, reasonalby good optics, no batteries, two sights instead of one, short eye relief, poor eye box.

there is what I have, right now its the Leupold, Nightforce, or ACOG TA31DOC. The Meopta Meostar has a poor reticle subtends too much at 100 and is more in the aimpoint catagory based on what I have read.

My illumination on the 2.5-10 is plenty bright, and is always turned to the lowest setting when shooting at night. If you're shooting in the dark you don't don't need much, and too much floods the scope.

As for shooting with a 50 Cal, and actually using it to it's full potential, I'd be looking at max power ranges of 14 to ~25, and with a 40 to 50mm objective lens.

how long do you get with the batteries in the NXS at 1/2 intensity? This is the scope I am most interested in.

I've had the scope 6 months now, and on the original battery. Admittedly I have shot mostly during the day, but still between playing around with it, hunting at night with it, and accidentally leaving it on a few hours it is fine. It will definitely last on a spot lighting trip. Again, I turn mine down to the lowest setting. The higher settings is useful when it is still light out, but a target it heavily shadowed.

To further endorse the scope, you really can't go wrong with it considering one of the most elite units of our military is using it on their M4's, and the majority of their OPS are at night.
