LOL, I dunno. In fact, I would really like a .338 Federal (that and a 7mm-08) to complete (hah!) my line of .308 based cartridges. I have a .243 and a .308 already...

Jordan, Get the Tikka in 338Fed and spend the savings on the best lightweight optics. Won't regret it!

LOL, I'm sure I won't! The problem is that I'm a student who's getting married at the end of August, so I'm broke as a joke right now!

Mr. Jordan Smith; I would like to extend congratulations and best wishes to you on your upcoming wedding. I hope the weather and all other details cooperate.
On the subject of buying guns before you get married, well as they say in netspeak, YMMV. If you marry the right woman, you just never know what might transpire.
We spent wedding money on my wife’s first hunting rifle for example, so there are exceptions. Half the collection in the safes is registered in her name and she actually has a pretty good sense of humor about new firearms showing up.
I’m busy building rifles for our daughters now, so again, you never know.
On the .308 family thing, you really need a .25 Souper and a .260 as well to make any collection complete! Goals are good right?
Anyway, I wanted to send best wishes your way.
Regards, Dwayne
PS with regard to the thread; We quit hunting spring bears after the last spring bear that I shot tasted off. Fat, fall bears only in our house from here on.
I have yet to see a .338Federal anywhere in these parts but I'm sure it would work very well on our local bears. We are only now seeing a few of the short magnums show up, so I don't think I'll see one for awhile.

Dwayne, Thank you very much sir, I appreciate that!
Your words have given me hope! I am saving not only for a wedding at the end of the summer, but also for tuition come sept 1. My budget includes $20 of spending money per month (which doesn't even cover powder, let alone new rifles!), so when I say I'm broke as a joke, I mean it! Unfortunately, it's just not realistic to even think of purchasing any additional rifles for a while yet. The thought of my wife giving me the ok to buy guns settles my uneasy mind a little bit regarding what these other guys are saying (believe me, I would LOVE to stock up on guns before the wedding).
For the future, I will keep in mind the .250 Souper, .260, and .358 for sure! I also have another collection that requires some attention, the .458 win mag derivatives! I have only the 7RM right now, but would also like a .458, .25/7RM, and a misfit in the bunch, the .375 Ruger. A .223 would also compliment my .22-250. Ahh, so many dreams....

You'll get all that stuff eventually Mr. Smith. Just be patient (what choice do you have, eh?). Love rules all, take care of business on the "love" front and the rest of life will flow rather naturally in pleasant directions. Probably <g>.
Best wishes to you as you ramp up to the big event!
I married my wife in blue jeans... but then that's what she wanted, so who was I to argue?
By the way, the best .338 Fed is... drum roll please... a .358! Just had to sneak that one in on ONE of the .338Fed threads, and those Alaskans are a tough crowd.

LOL. Thanks for your support Jeff, I do appreciate that...I plan on upgrading my crappy Bushnell sport range finder to a Leica before I get any more guns anyways. That, and my crappy Bushnell spotter to something better (a Kowa maybe? )! haha I have a hard time getting the .338 Win Mag, as I just don't see a need for anything over my 7RM until I get to about the .375 range, but this .338 Fed may be a good excuse to get a .338 without compromising my mind's logic Of course the .358 will be a given as well...

Well now, that's crazy talk, but we'll let it slide as your mind is probably addled with the upcoming nuptials and all.

Congrats Jordan.
But the wisdom of the married have spoken.
Splurge - now! Ziess bino's last for a lifetime! It's now or never for the finest optics.
Everything after is a negotiation. It's worth it. But it IS totally different.
