I'm new to this and just learning as I go.I hunt them like I would turkey.I take the foxpro out and do a little howling to find them. This I do at night when things are quite and will hunt them in the eary morning or later in the day.

Now the question......I was having lots of answers to the howing but for the last week,I have not heard a peep. How I'm not calling in the same place.I have run the wheels off the truck tring to hear one and not a peep.Do they take spells where they get quite?Have they moved? Some of you that hunt these thing tell me what you think.........

They're raising pups and trying to feed themselves and 3-5 other mouths...

This time of the year has always been tough to hunt on average...
I leave them alone, let them do their thing, and get after them when fall is in the air.

They're much more predicatble at this time...

Exactly.
Michigan's Coyote Hunting season closes from April 15'th and reopens on July 15'th so the Coyote's can raise their Pups.

I guess thats why the only one I've killed in the past few weeks of calling was a male. Boy do I know how to pick a time to get into something new. Hopefully I don't suck as bad as I thought.

Kaleb..

Start trying again about September or so...
The pups will be active and be very dumb...
Plus it's cooler and less bugs...

In my part of the world I don't do any howling to speak of except for Jan/Feb.

If I were to be trying it now it would at most be in the morn b4 dawn and when it was still dark out as a possible locator. But if I were to really want to do that I'd just use a siren.

My favoritest calls this time of year bar-none is a fawn in distress and coyote pup in distress...

Howling this time of year can be very difficult...
