I had a very good safari last Jul/Aug in Mozambique with Safaris De Mocambique taking several nice trophies one of which was a croc. Safaris de Mocambique is headed by Simon Rodger who also owned Rifa Safaris in Zim. It appears that most of his infrastructure was based in Bulawayo. It is now 11 months since my hunt and I have heard from Maple Freight that my cites papers were essentially cleared but no trophies have been shipped. I can only surmise that the meltdown that is Zim has had a negative effect. Anyone else out there still waiting?

Moccasin Joe and I were in Tanzania last end of July ,early August. We are still waiting too.We were told beforehand that it could take this long. There is also the problem of the Tanzanian government having suddenly and retroactively tripled , or nearly so,the trophy fees. The owner of the safari company had collected the original fees and we were assured that our contract would be honored.....but he has suddenly gone incommunicado. There are others that are working on the problem and we have been encouraged recently that our trophies will be released shortly.

Stuff from my hunters last year in Zim has been shipped long ago in most cases. My last hunters, from last October, have stuff en route as we speak. It was not a Zim meltdown, it was the US Gov changing the rules on the paperwork in mid stream this year but the guys in Parks dept in Zim did a bang up job of getting new paperwork re certified quickly. So far, Parks dept. and hunting operations are minimally affected by the troubles over there. The people of Zim are suffering greatly though and deserve our prayers and support.
Steve, sorry to hear your guy is not in communication with you. Bad deal there. Good luck.

There's ll kinds of problems and delays all over the world with trophy export/import just now and you shouldn't be too suprised if you get delays and/or other problems.
I won't delve into it too deeply here because it'll take me too long to write and you too long to read......... but a quick summary of just some of the problems are:
CITES, US F&WS and other bodies all changed the rules on forms etc at the same time and in many cases, no-one thought to tell the exporting countries what the new rules were. Also a lot of the changes were changes that happened in the airport security areas where no-one could check what the hell was going on. Some of the biggest numerical delays were probably in Zim because they had the added problems of lack of facilities to print new docs etc..... I don't know if it actually happened but USF&WS were threatening to sieze and immediatly destroy any (CITES) trophies that arrived without correct documentation.
New rues in the UK made it damn near impossible to import raw trophies and those same rules are still a big problem that's made worse by extremely unaccommodating vets who are probably [bleep] scared of foot and mouth getting back in..... my advice to anyone considering importing raw trophies into the UK nowadays is DONT!!!!!!!!!
From the problems that a lot of hunters have experienced last season, my advice would be that no matter where they hunt, they should send their trophies to SA for treatment and then have the finished trophies shipped to their home......... I'm sure some bugger will suggest I have some kind of ulterior motive for that suggestion. - I don't. The reason I offer that advice is that the SA import procedure is relatively easy and the inspectors considerably more reasonable and tolerant of faint stamps, buggered paperwork and incorrect dates etc and the export is handled by staff who are considerably more profecient than places such as Tanzania, Mozambique and the rest of Africa and they make damn sure their paperwork is in order before they ship it to the country of final destination........

Not that I have the experience of Shakari, but my trophies from RSA were dropped off for taxidermy at Red Dune in RSA around the middle-end of April and they were hanging on the wall before Christmas. Hard to argue with that!

My story is the same as BUG's, hunted in July, shipped in April, lost in Canada for about 6 weeks(Air France's fault), Picked up two weeks ago. A friend who knows good taxidermy tells me they did a very good job.

Where's your pics Martin? The "Head Hanging Good Time" thread could be resurrected if you documented the antics in your wife's new house!
