A little project that's been in the works for about a year. I wanted to do a "training" rifle. I started 1st messing with a cz452. It just wasn't worth the effort. Decided to Just Do It.

Found a 40x in 22lr with some surface pitting on the action. Perfect for my needs. Ordered a flat-top in the appropriate colors from Rick.

Scope from TiminTN (Nikon Monarch 5.5x16), Finally got time to do the deal this spring. Had my 'smith do a chop and thread (yes, I am just waiting on the paperwork to comeback on a YHM Mite any day) Routed the stock Memorial day weekend, Duracoated the barrel and action a few weeks ago.

Finally got the whole shebang put together tonight. Guess I'll take off tomorrow.

War Eagle!

For whatever reason a 40-x has been on my to do list for many years and other things just keep getting in front of the project.

I think this just pushed me that last little step. I'm jealous.

PMC: That is a great looking Rifle you have there!
I hope you will be as happy with the accuracy from your 40X in 22 LR as I am with mine!
We may have talked before but I finally got off my lazy butt and bought a Remington 40X in 22 LR this past April!
I had wanted one for decades and I could not be happier now that I have mine on line.
And by coincidence I have the same Nikon Monarch 5.5x16 scope on my Rifle as you have on yours.
Be sure to try the Green Tag CCI stuff as it shoots really well in my Rifle.
For this years Ground Squirrel Hunting I settled on Winchester Power-Point Hollowpoint ammunition. It shoots pretty well also.
By the way does your 40X have a safety on the action (trigger) - mine does not?
Best of luck with your great looking rig and be sure to let us know how it shoots!

VarmintGuy - I do remember you posting about your 40x. I am taking notes about what shoots well in yours. Mine does the safety on the action and it has the bolt lock.

When I get some groups I'll be sure and let you know.

So whats the best ammo for a bone-stock 40X?

Mine came from the CMP, standard barrel circa 1963. I have the Redfield Olympics front and back just like Uncle Sam wanted.
