Been there in bow season, elk all over. Been there in MZ season which is generally a week or so before your dates IIRC. Elk on first day or so and then they hightail to private land or thick nasty and shut up. Have never been around during rifle season though, dno't know if they come back around or not. I know they are a bit spooky during MZ to say the least, but last time out, we had deer tags and last day we were DRIVING out and pulled over on a forest service road to check for a legal meat buck, just walked out into the edge of a clearcut and a 300 or so 6x6 walks by about 100 yards below me...no cows...
Any particular area you normally hunt?
All my maps are loaned out so I can't grab em and compare...

Real dry right now. Forest won't open until July 2nd. Theoretically, tops on bulls will be weak. Big unit. Will be at the end of the rut, most big bulls will have left the cows and are travelling looking for late estrus cows. By the time your hunt starts the elk will have been hunted by archers, handicap hunters, juniors and muzzleloaders. Still a great hunt but as with any hunt, preseason scouting and preparation will up your chances for success. And its better to hunt elk than to not hunt elk, even in an off year, just ask all of my friends who didn't draw!
