I have a 24" Encore barrel in 405 Win and have only shot factory Hornady ammo. Anybody reload for this caliber and what bullets do you use ? Thanks.

Ken I load for the 405. I use nothing but cast bullets in my Winchester. I don't have the loading data here. I've used IMR 4064, IMR 4895 and IMR 3031. 3031 gives the most oomph behind a 350 grain cast, basically a full case.

That means that, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon.

I also reload for the 405. I use Hornady 300 gr SP and Barnes 300 gr X bullets, as well as some home cast and some 41 mag pistol bullets. I shoot them from my #1H Ruger. It's a great round. I find the Hornady factory 300 gr FP's are quite accurate. My reloads using the Hornady bullets are about as good, but I'm driving them a little quicker, like 175 - 200 fps quicker. For those, I use either Varget or H4895. The Varget has not showed me a great load yet. The H4895 does pretty well.
The Barnes 300 gr X is the best one so far. It will shoot under and inch at 100 yards, and it is plugging along at 2400 fps. I use H4895 for that one . . . a powder charge I will not list, because it is warmer than published -- I worked it up slowly.
The 292 gr cast I use either RL-7 or AA5744, as I do with the 210 gr JHP 41 magnum bullet. I use 25 gr of AA5744 for both cast and pistol. The pistol bullets are amazingly accurate, and fun for the kids to shoot.
The X bullet is my choice -- and at 3,840 ft lbs of energy, it should prove reall good for the moose in this locale.

Sadly the best jacketed bullet ever for the 405 is no longer available. Northforks .411 300 gr ss. The Hornady bullets are alright, but unless they've changed up abit, the jackets are entirely to thin for game shooting. Cast bullets begin and end with the Lyman 412263. I have shot cast as heavy as 400 gr, but getting the proper diameter is the tuff part. Preferred powders, 5744 for cast, rl 12 15,h4895,4064, and 4320 for jacketed.
