I was thinking about building a L/R deer&hog rifle using the Savage 10FP as the base rifle. I hear good things about the accuracy. I shoot Left handed and this rifle is availabe in a Left hand model. Does anyone know if I can get an aftermarket L/H stock for this rifle. I was going to send the rifle to Hart Rifles in Pa for their accuracy package. What do you know about Hart's work? I was thinking 308 for the cal.
Yes the FP is available in LH 308 w/Accue trigger (#01059)...I have had my share of FPs...223..260..308..300 Win & a 7-08 which I still have...the biggest complaint is the flimsey Tupperware stock...they are accurate for a factory rifle...the barrels are usually a bit rough...button rifled and built by Savage...10 twist in the 308...as far as accurizing one...tighten up the factory headspace with the barrel nut and FL sized brass from your dies..use a machined recoil lug and go shoot it..Lapua brass will last the longest of course...Win in second place..as far as aftermarket LH stocks...call Fred @ Sharpshooter Supply in Delphos Ohio...the Savage Gunsmith guru....I have my share of Savage s/shot p/dog rigs set up with heavy Pac Nor barrels from 20 Vartarg to 260 Imp....
I have a 110fp in a 300 win mag. I put a choate ultimate varminter stock on it. not good for off hand shooting, but its my long range rifle so either prone or bench anyway

Whether you can get an aftermarket stock depends on the action type. The new actions are centerfeed and the hole spacing is different from the staggered feed that were produced for so many years. The stockmakers haven't caught up yet.
Overall the rifle is amazingly accurate. The factory synthetic stock is not very popular due to its flexing in the forearm area. My son is looking at buying one or building one if we can get a stagger feed action.
I bought mine in November direct from savage and it fit the Choate stock. I'm not sure when they changed the center feed and staggered feed. perhaps when they changed to the accu trigger? I know some manufacturers use that as a guide line saying it will fit accutrigger or pre-accutrigger models. I think the best way is to measure the hole spacing to verify before you buy the stock.
