From what I have seen, these guys are usually rich pricks, and the prick part doesn't go away with hunting. They are rude, demanding, and want the world to kiss up to them.

I know a young guy that works on a private ranch of 10,000 acres. They do not outfit the ranch, and it is only hunted by him, and a couple friends. He shoots trophy animals every year, and his buddies could not understand why I wasn't impressed. He literally drives around, sees an animal, gets out of the truck, and shoots it. Not real hard to do, especially when the ranch is surrounded by public.

Probably the least respect I have ever seen for deer and elk, is when I guided one year. Not one guy wanted the meat! And they expected a 30" buck to be behind every tree. One guy shot a 29" buck that probably went 170, and he complained. I told him he was reading too many Outdoor Life articles.

Yep I am with you that would drive me nuts. I know a guy who kills a big bull usally in the 300 to 350 class almost every year he is doing it the same way they are hunting his dads ranch and nobody else is and its huge so they pick and choose. He doesn't understand why we don't get excited by that. He has never had to compete on public ground if you see a bull like that you had better get on them now. Those guys let them go and check out some different bulls if they don't see a bigger one they go back. Although this is a nice kid but we get tired of the pictures while they are nice bulls it is not very tough hunting. I suppose we are just envious but when he looks at our little rag horns he doesn't see the difference. Plus they get LOP tags every year. The elk are very vocal and he can call bulls in all day they are not call shy at all. They are wild but not pressured at all.

My uncle quit guiding he got tired of the rich out of state guys, he just could not put up with any more after three of them got so drunk ( they weren't supposed to have the booze) they wouldn't get up the next day and then bitched that afternoon about not killing any thing. He said some choice words and quit.

Brad,
If you must know, I shot my biggest elk in Canada and not under a fence, and yes I have shot some elk behind a high fence, only on large properties and hunts are was offered to me at no cost, and I sell hunts for these people..I would bet anything that you would have also accepted those hunts..I am in the hunting business. I sell hunts in 70 different countries, most of So. Africa is fenced hunts. I don't sell hunts on small properties, as I feel like a fair chase hunt can be had on the larger properties. The whole world of hunting has boundries...

Your about the biggest flamer on this board, its uncalled for and just plain chicken s--t on your part..and I happen to know that you also have shot a big elk or two on private property thats fenced, so what.

I don't have much use for phony internet flamers like you, I seriouly doubt that you have ever hunted much and your just plain jealous of anyone that has.

Ray,
I have no dog in this fight but I think the way you presented it as factual is what threw people into flamethrower mode. You invited them to provide proof that was contrary to your information and it appears they did.

If they pictures were simply presented as a 540pt bull taken from an unknown location and under unknown circumstances everyone would have looked, appreciated the photos of a big bull, and moved on.

I have the opportunity to watch a California Tule Elk herd on a regular basis. It is an "unfenced" hunt on public land with 1 or 2 bull tags (and 2000-3000 applicants for a tag)for a herd of 500 elk. Success has been 100% and every bull taken is an easy BC entry. Even though it is public land I would not put it on the same level as hunting elk that receive any hunting pressure at all. After my last photo safari that entailed watching a dozen palmented bulls from my truck while sitting on a road I have decided to put my points towards a different opportunity in the future.

While I'm sure there are mamy advantages to a high fence hunt vs. a public land hunt, the biggest one would be knowing that there were elk there.

The damn things are very mobile, and there's not much more depressing than that feeling that you are busting your butt, but could be miles and miles from any elk...

As to this particular bull, all I know is what I was told, and make no claim to authenticity and I posted it because I have never seen such a bull, end of story..

If you guys want to fight over his gene pool, or birth place, then have at it, I don't know, all I know is he is one big boy and since these elk in that area have not been hunted much in probably 50 years, and the picture LOOKS like Catto Gage ranch country, I assumed it was as stated in the email.....If it isn't then he is still one hell of a bull, and I have shared it with you, thats about the size of it..

varmintsinc:
I don't get what you're accusing him of from reading his posts. I see it as info shared as received...nothing more. He even said if it isn't as it was presented to him, then so be it.

Just don't try a equalize what he's done with hunting wild elk in any way. BTW the field where that elk was killed in is no way attached to a 150,000 acres of free range. I've seen views of the pics with the fences and houses in the background. We banned the hunting on game farms in Montana, and rightly so.

+1 I wish we could get rid of them here in Idaho too.

If anyone got the wrong idea or I gave the wrong impression is was purely a mistake..Brad flames me every chance he gets and I don't pay much attention to him, I try to keep it civil by way of explanation...My only intention was to show folks the biggest elk I had ever seen, end of story...

Why some have to flame away at something so simple is beyond me. Get a life....this internet stuff is not the end of the world.
