Good interview with Patrick Hemingway on NPR this am... He lived here in Bozeman for years but now resides in Helena, MT when not in Africa.

Telling a story on myself...
When I worked the gun counter in Bozeman, a couple came in to buy a rifle and scope for the lady of the couple to use antelope hunting. They listened to my recommendations on the rifle, and said they would discuss them with "Patrick". I had no idea who Patrick was.
A few weeks later they returned and bought the rifle we had talked about, ( I think it was a 243) and asked for some scope recommendations to take back to "Patrick".
My ego was getting a little sore so I asked them who "Patrick" was. They explained that it was Patrick Hemmingway, who had spent much of his life as a professional hunter in Africa.
Patrick used to come into the store occasionally, as I learned when someone pointed him out to me. I had waited on him without ever knowing who he was. He was a very quiet, unassuming person very polite.

I wonder how he did it--or are we romancing? However, there was no Internet back in his day. His words are classic and poatic, and I love them all. I am especially partial to the the short stories of nick.

Trout fishing for a living----beat that!!!

But then, if you are hunter----old tyme--O'Connor and Page gives me the hardy!

I very much enjoyed reading Jack Hemingway's book:

Misadventures of a Fly Fisherman: My life with and without Papa.

I recommend it to all Hemingway fans.
