Were the Colt Delta HBARs selected from factory run for accuracy or were they just a gimmic, decal stuck on regular production rifle, put in a package (scope etc.) for marketing? Thanks.

HBARS have a NOTICABLY HEAVIER barrel and a few other changes from the standard rifles , and yeah, generally they are more accurate

Thanks for the reply, but what I was wondering about was whether the special Delta HBAR rifles were a special selection ( as was sometimes done with military issue rifles in days past) for better than average accuracy or whether the Delta designation was simply advertising hype.

I have no way of knowing for sure but I would bet that they were just standard production rifles. If they were really that concerned with accuracy why would they have stuck a piece of $hit Simmons scope on them?

I have two, one with a custom match barrel so will not consider it. The other is a stock flat top. It has been about 12-14 years ago, I was home visiting my parents in N Louisiana and went to the local range. There was a man there with a nice Browning A bolt in I think 243, and he was amazed that my black semi auto was shooting smaller groups than his bolt action.
Both of mine have Jewell two stage match triggers, and with the right reloads shoot around 0.5" and smaller groups. If I shot more I probably could do better, but do not live where it is convenient to get to a range.

my older Match Target Competition HBAR, with iron sights, will shoot 1 MOA all day long. Remove the carry handle, and put on optics, and the groups shrink to .75 inch or less. I have surprised a few folks at the range myself, shooting alongside their custom bolt rifles.

Glad to see someone has same results as I have had. My #2 Colt with acustome upper, 24" heavy match(bull) barrel, free floated forend (under stock A-2 handguards) will do .5-.75" depending on how I feel the day I am shooting. I have noticed as I get older, some days my heartbeat is so strong that the gun bumps every time the heart beats and this makes for larger groups.
