I like CCI standard in my 10/22. Very accurate and a good squirrel getter. It (10/22) doesnt shoot the mini mags near as well or consistent.
I'm going to try the mini mags in my Marlin lever with a little fixed 4x as well as others like sub sonic and standard.
What do you like for a good consistent hunting round that you can buy locally?

...I prefer Wolf Match ammo for it's consistently excellent accuracy in ANY of my many 22RF rifles. I've used Remington/Eley Club Extra in the past, but have found the Wolf Match both less costly and more consistently accurate. It is the best stuff I've found for squirrel hunting, BOTH quiet and super accurate! I opt for CCI SGB loads (small game bullet) for small game needing a bit more punch.

or CCI Subsonic LR HPs. Those two, trump everything else that I've tried (save only .22 CB Shorts), and I've run everything there is, several times over.
We see pretty much eye to eye on ammo, particularly the CB Shorts, but the question was about hunting ammo.
Wackin raccoons in the backyard don't equal "hunting" to me.It's entertainment.
Though I am itching to try the CCI Subsonic HP on gray squirrels this fall.

I hunt with the SGBs (40 gr. lead flat points at 1200 fps) and the LR Subsonic HPs (40 gr. SOFT lead DEAD, WIDE cavity HPs at 1040 fps). They kill stuff, very, very well..... better than most, and shoot lights out.
CB shorts, kill all outside of their paper ballistics; but the LR HPs trump even them when it comes to delivering smack at 50-100 yards.
Try 'em.

VA, Have been meaning to try the SGB for years, but nobody carries them locally. Will have to order a few boxes with my next Midway order.
Have played with the Subsonic HP but have yet to shoot any game with it.From the expansion tests I've seen online,it ought to be one bad mother.
I have shot a ton of chit with the CB Short, and have a little different experience than you-on anything bigger than a ground squirrel,it's head or nothing. With a head shot, they are impressive.I've straight up stoned big gray foxes and 30 pound 'coons with them.

The subsonic HP, is about the baddest mutha I've tried yet. Very soft lead, opens up fast, and still penetrates very well. Not a bad combination....
The subsonic load characteristics also tend to make it very, very consistent from shot to shot, and quite accurate.
As for the CBs, you're right: they are a head-shot only proposition, and when done that way, stuff just dies. Amazing.... That said, with a .22LR, just about anything and everything is, and with the accuracy of a GOOD load, everything can be, too. Good trade, that.

Yup,whodathunkit?
That's why I have two 22 Short semi-autos set up for just CB Shorts. The raccoons here fear me.I have to lay off them every year or two, just so they'll let their guard down and come back to raid my garbage can.

Obviously you've never seen "The Big Lebowski".
Thug assaults The Dude. While questioning him,the Thug pulls out Dude's bowling ball.He asks,"What the phuck is this?"
The Dude looks at him and says,"Obviously you're not a golfer."

Been shooting Eley sub-sonic HP's in my Sako finnfire. Very accurate, and kill ground squirrles very dead. A almost $7.00 for 50, think I'll try the CCI and Rem. sub-sonics. My Ruger compact 10/22 also likes the Eleys. Virgil B.

Out of my rifles, they keyholed at 20 yards. You need a rifle with a pretty quick twist (1-9 at least)to get them to shoot.A few of the 10/22 nuts out there rebarrel their rifles just so they can shoot that load.
