What is Dominion day. Similar to our 4th of July independence celebration? Just wondering

On July 1 , 1867 four British Colonies joined in a confederation to form Canada. gradually, over many years, full independence was achieved. It was an evolution not a revolution.

Fellow Canadian Members; I would like to extend a happy Dominion Day or should you prefer Canada Day to you all wherever in the world you might be this morning.
We’ve finally got a bit of normal south Okanagan weather here, with the mercury hitting 102°F on Sunday and just a bit less yesterday. It’s now 76°F and it’s not 8:00am yet, so it will likely be a normal July 1st for us as far as heat is concerned.
Again, have a great day wherever you are.
Regards, Dwayne

Yes, Canada became a country envied the world over for it's behaviour, it's beauty and it's freedoms.
No civil war needed to be fought, no wars of independence, no slavery wars, no indian wars.
We did it - as always - by negotiating!
Truly, we have a history - and a country - worth being VERY VERY PROUD OF!!!
My name is Brian - and I'm one PROUD Canadian!!!
Happy Canada Day everyone!!!

And some poor negotiating our ancestors did, leaving us with a country where all citizens are not equal under the law.
