I just got lucky and was able to buy a Browning B92 in 44 mag over in the classifieds of this forum. Never had B92 before. Anyone have any suggestions for a receiver sight ? I intend to hunt hogs and eastern white tail with it. Not interested in scopes or tang sights, but my old eyes need some help.
Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

I have a Winchester M94 with the Williams FP and can recommend it without reservation. I don't have any experience with any other brands, so I won't go so far as to say it is the best, but I'm sure happy with it.

I've no idea if a XS will fit it, but if it did slam dunk that's how I'd go.
You may wanna check into them?

Rabbitdog The Williams Foolproof is hell on rugged and easy to adjust. I have had some other brands, but they seem to have various jeejaws to fall off, brenk, strip or just generally screw up.

Thanks to all who replied. Sounds like the Williams is the way to go.
Thanks again..... Rabbitdog

I trust you are aware it will need drilling and tapping first before you could put a Williams,or Lyman on it.I have same rifle and have decided to make do with it as is, don't want to drill holes in it and tang sights don't do it for me.

Big Bear, I understand about the drill / tap needs. I would love to be able to leave it with just open sights , BUT... I do want to use it for hunting and my "Bi-Focals" cause great conflict with open sights. It's hell to get old but its better than the alternative !
Thanks for your input.... Rabbitdog

I have a Williams on a Marlin 44 Mag and an XS on a Legacy 92 454 Cassul. I much prefer the XS. It is trimmer and does not clutter up the view like the bulkier Williams, making it a true ghost ring. XS also includes a nifty plastic front sight so you can clip it off to find the proper height of the front sight for the load you're using. You can use a roofing nail but the plastic XS temporary sight is easier.

A couple of things, from someone whose owned a few B-92's, and about iron sight/aging eyes like mine.
Any side-mount sight, like the Williams, Lyman, or old Redfield, etc, etc, designated to fit a Model 94 will fit the B-92 after D/T'ing the rear upper receiver side in the correct position.
The XS sight for Model 94 AE's can also be mounted via D/T'ing the one hole atop each receiver top rail, alongside the bolt, near the rear. The bolt will cylle back/forth beneath it.
Any peep will need a higher front sight blade to zero the gun at 100yds - or it'll shoot too high with any peep in the full-down position.
There's good news, and bad news, here.
The good news is that the front can be replaced with a bright, but fine (or coarse) fiber-optic bead (from several sources like Williams, Tru-Glo,& Hi-Viz), for aging eyes or quick game shooting in shaded areas like swamps or as dusk, etc.
The bad news is that if your rifle has the square base, post front sight, it's welded in place and will need drastic measures to replace that may or may not be within your ability to personally do so.

I'd leave it as-is. I just don't think there's any benefit with a .44 Magnum in going to an aperture sight. You have to ask yourself why they weren't D&T'ed for such a sight, to begin with.

I have a Redfield (Model 80 IIRC) on my 30/30 M94 and a Lyman 66 on my Marlin 1895 45/70. Neither has ever had any part come loose or break and after many, many years have never lost their zero. I would recommend the Lyman (the Redfields are only available used). Odessa PS I love the set-up I have on my Marlin M1894FG, 41 Mag - the Lyman #66 peep on the receiver and a Williams firesite bead on the front - my eyes can see it right up to the end of legal light in the woods (30 minutes after sunset).

A pair of glasses to correct your vision is another option and probably the best option..The 44 mag is a short range round at best, I call it a 100 yard gun, the kill zone of a deer is about 12x12 inches give or take..you should be able to hit that size of a target with any sight or you should not be hunting with unassisted eyes.
