Thought this was kind of odd. I was trying to take a picture of my reticle one day, just screwing around with my cell phone camera, and found that I could very easily see the inside of my Zeiss 3.5x10. Much more so, than doing the same thing with my Loopy 2.5x8's.
With the Zeiss cranked up and looking towards something bright, there's a lot of light noise, for want of a better term, around the image proper than with my Loopy's too. In other words, crank the Leupold up all the way, the eye relief gets shorter, and there's black around the image. Do the same with the Zeiss and there's this milky-white blur around the image.
Does this perhaps speak to superior baffling in the Leupold? Or...?
Anyway, here's a couple pics. I got distracted doing this, and actually ended up getting some other ones that were quite... psychedelic! Try it! These are pics of the actual structures and interior of the scope; not just light patterns.

I once new a guy who ran with that crowd. He was an interesting cat, to say the least. Had some amazing stories.
He had picked up some bad habits along the way in his long, strange trip and was in the first wave of guys to die of AIDS in the mid- 80's. From needles I presume since he was a junkie.
Of course he was also a brilliant, if perpetual, PhD anthropology student... one of those guys in "Gradual School" as we used to laugh about... anyway a fundamentally flawed but very, very interesting person.
And he was connected to the Leary (and Owlsley) pipelines...

What your seeing is internal reflections of the interior of the tube. On most better quality scopes, this is fairly well controlled with the inside surfaces being a flat mat black..On some scopes these surfaces have lots tiny grooves as well, again to stop light reflection..
No idea why it appears to be so bad on your Zeiss; on my Zeiss Victory 2.5-10x42mm there are no reflections I can detect with my eye...

I can't see them with my eyes; my camera saw them.
My camera can't see the interior of my Leupolds like that... which seemed odd.
