Has anyone had any experience with the 300gr. uni-core load? on the ballistics calculator it really shoots flat....wondering if it would make a good eastern deer and black bear load. would the uni-core hold up on a close shot? 2350fps. is pretty fast....thanks in advance....bearit.....

I shoot the 350's, they would work fine, and i think would slay some serious deer and blacky's.

Bearit - I will chime in here.. I shot Buffalo Bore 45/70 ammo from my Marlin Guide Gun. No problems and good accuracy. The 500gr solid at 1650fps gives stem to stern penetration on the biggest pig you would care to shoot. My two cents.

thanks for the replies.....i'm wondering if the speer 300gr. uni-core can stand up to a close range hit at that velocity.....glad to hear that you don't get any over-pressure signs....i would think that this bullet would still give good expansion out beyond 200 yds......any thoughts? regards....bearit....

The 300 grain Speer Unicore is by far the best bang for the buck in jacketed bullets for the 45-70.It is "Bonded" and will hold up as well or better than most if not all 300 grain bullets at close or high velocity impact because it is Bonded.

I would not hesitate to use Buffalo Bores 300 grain Unicore if I wasn't a reloader and have his 350 Speer that I bought years ago when I first got my Guide Gun.

Most of the bullets made for the 45-70 open up down to 1200 fps and I would assume the Unicore is no different.I love them and shoot 100's of them in my .454 Casull every year.

bearit when I tested this ammo out of my Lim V 24" barrel I got just over 2400 fps ave for 10 shots. Be warned it shoots much higher than other factory 300 gr. loads. She's stepping out pretty good at those figures; almost .375 H&H range. Have fun.

Bearit, Im sorry for such a long wait on response.

I shoot an 1895 guide gun. And with my recent scope I put on it, in a good group 3 shots touch in a clover looking group. Average around an inch or 1 and a half when I shot alot with my red dot (1 power). I shot 3, 3 shot goups 2 all 3 were touching and the third was shot about an inch.

As for the Uni-core kill away, will work great for your needs!

300 grain at 2350 ????????????

An honest question from a relative newcomer to the 45/70.

I've been loading the 300 grain partiton over 63 grains of Benchmark in my Marlin 1895SS and the recoil is kinda ....... interesting.

Comments please.

284, the buffalo bore loads have pretty stout recoil. The 405 is by far the heaviest of them all that they load.

Have shot some grizzly loads which were heavier recoil, but a bit more cash.

I think 2350 is what BB marks there 300 load at, probably with a 22 inch barrel, my guess or longer.
