Wondering if anyone would care to share some info about unit 74. We're (girlfriend, buddy, and myself) trying to plan for a 2nd season, most likely, or 3rd season rifle elk hunt. It will be our first elk hunt, and will be DIY backpacking. We hiked a bit there a couple years ago, but it was mainly straight up and then back down.

Main Q's are- likely weather for that time of year? Good access points to start? What are the elk patterns, as far as movement? Are they generally up high or starting to move down by then? Etc....
The most inexperienced one of us is still a moderately experienced backpacker, shooter, and hunter, and we all have a good fitness level. We want to hunt hard, have a good time, and try to get a shot at an elk (cow or bull). The general idea is to load up the packs, get away from the roads and start looking for elk. But where?
