I used to load IMR 4198 with 180's but now I use RL 10. 2700 + is easy.

With 200's I used IMR 3031 but now I use RL 10 with the 200's also.

Approx. 2500 + is there.

I am not saying 2700 with 200's.

With RL 10 however one must set a velocity maximum for each weight.

I worked up a load with RL 10 and the 180's and the velocity went very high. How it could go so high I wonder? In any case I cut the load back to 2700-2800 fps and called it good.

Here is my latest 358 Win. Its a MS full stock with a 20" bbl. Its sighted with 180 gr Horn. SS pistol bullets as I try to line up a coyote this summer.

I freaking love your rifle Savage. It's twin is in the safe. Sent you a PM.

powdr, I like Hornady's 200 GR SP, and want to use the RN next. I have used IMR 3031, Varget and W-748. My best accuracy has come with 3031. I have heard of using up to 54.0 gr of W-748 (compressed) and getting Whelen velocity, but that is a very hot load. I am going to try TAC eventually, but when I want to crank things up, I just reach for the .350 mag. Here are some helpful links:

If you like mine then I left one at the store! Its a 30-06 as pictured below. Last I saw it was at the Autumn Gun Works in Goshen, CT. They go for about $1500.

I use both H4895 and IMR4895 in three 358's and one 356 with 200's and 220/225grain bullets. It gives me the best combination of accuracy and velocity.

I used to use IMR 4320 then couldn't get it so I switched to IMR 4895. Both seem to work good in my Savage 99.

IMR 4895 will give decent velocities across a range, though others may give more. I have not seen any sign - either from case indicators or from velocity - that W748, even loaded very compressed, is all that fast or hot. I do see 2300 fps with AA 2520 in my 20" barrel and some of the faster AA choices get 2500 or so with 200s in the same.

I definitely got the fastest loads with a 225 gr bullet with W-748. However, the load had to be very compressed and it actually backed primers out as the powder is so fine that it enters the flash hole and puts pressure on the primer. Fast it fine, but only if the load is reliable and compressed loads of W-748 were not, in my experience.

I've found that using a 2 ft aluminum drop tube helps considerably to reduce the amount of compression needed when using 54 grains of 748 behind 225 NP. I've used my 358 quite a bit and haven't had a problem with primers backing out (although I did before I used the longer drop tube).

I see this what not mentioned:
http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads...e/1#Post2263728

I am going to try TAC next (for my .308 Win too), to see if it can equal the accuracy 3031 has given me. If not, I am sticking with 3031, and calling it a day. I have killed hogs and deer with the .358 using 3031, and have yet to recover a bullet. I really like the Hornady Interlock at that velocity.
