Evening folks,

I am in need of a gunsmith who specializes in leverguns, Marlins in particular. Anyone exist in Canada?

My very new Marlin 1894 in 44 mag has significant issues which I initially felt were dealt with by the only Marlin repair shop in Canada I could get hold of. After they had it for better than trhee months, they lost it in thier shop once and upon returning it to me, they sent it to the wrong address in a big way. Kudos to Canada Post in Calgary for sorting out that problem. Took it to the range today for the first time since it came back, fired 15 rounds and the hammer and trigger are seized up. Intially it was the lever which seized up due to the loading gate being screwed up and a burr on the action. Now this!

I haven't torn it down yet or contacted Marlin. Likely will do that tomorrow or Thursday as I'm still slightly ticked about this. I like Marlin guns but this one is friggin jinxed.

Any ideas as to the problem? And of course, anyone know of a levergun artist as I'm ready to pay to get this sorted out though it is a new gun under warranty, I'm not impressed with the warranty shop in Canada.

I'm hoping to find it will be a simple to correct issue when I tear it down but planning for the worst. FWIW, this doesn't resemble the dreaded Marlin Jam as I understand it. Seems the trigger/hammer assembly are out of sync.

Thanks folks.

Don't make the mistake of sending it to a gunsmith, lever or otherwise. Contact Marlin and be firm with them about how you need this repaired. Marlin is a good company and I doubt you will have a problem with them. The problem you will encounter would be sending it to an independant gunsmith.

Problem hasn't been with Marlin. Wish I could send it to Marlin as they are a good company. Problem there is the "New World Order" we all live in now that won't allow me to send the gun into the US from Canada.
I do plan to contact Marlin though to see if they have any ideas. They were as helpful as they could be with the initial problem all things considered. I plan on letting them in on the fact that the warranty shop isn't exactly up to par.
In 30+ years of shooting/hunting this is the first time I have had any problem I couldn't solve myself although it is only because of the warranty that I haven't torn it down to a pile of parts. Guess I'm making up for it now in spades lol. Ever the optimist.....
WRT a gunsmith, I'm looking for a Canadian version of Dave Clay or Wild West Guns. I like this rifle even though I have less than 50 rounds through it.

I agree with trying to deal with Marlin first but if that doesn't work I am sure these guys can steer you in the right direction. Dealt with them a couple of times, great people to do business with.
