What is the thoughts on this press? I am currently using a Lee single stage press... I have not issues with it and it works well for me but I am looking at getting another press just to "upgrade"... Not really looking for a progressive press...

So is the Forster really the Cadillac of Single stage presses?

Sako,
All that I can say : Get the Forster Co-Ax !!!
I bought one 3 mos. ago and love it. I had been using a Redding Big Boss. Both are fine single stage presses, but I like the Co-AX better.

I've always been intrigued by them, but never could see spending the money when I am happy with my old press. Can someone explain to me what co-axial means? Thanks, John

5sdad, I believe Co-Axial means everthing moves along one axis.

Sako, two words.....buy one! ;\)

I'm thinkin I wasted 20 years on an RCBS (which is a fine press BTW) when I could have been using a Co-Ax. Most fabulous press I own.

Now I think I need one for the .223 case head size & then I would not have to swap the shellholder around. \:D

Joe - thanks for the reply, but you have to realize that you are dealing with a pretty hopeless case here. What all moves along the same axis and how is that different than what takes place with other presses? (If you like, you could try to explain co-axial cable to me as well.) Best, John

It's mostly just a trade name. Part of the theory is that since the die 'floats' in it's boss and the jaws for the case holder are spring loaded, all components and press remain concentric without much effort from the reloader to do so. In the more conventional presses the same can be accomplished but with a bit more effort to maintain perfect concentricity throughout the reloading process. For instance, when dies cant in the boss because of thread slop in conventional presses you have to button them down under pressure to insure they are square, or you can float them with the use of an O ring as with a Lee die. If the ram boss isn't perfectly conentric to the other press components, the shell holder can stay slightly eccentric in its boss in the ram and skew a case. They are just easier to maintain concentricity with less effort.

We love ours. I'll be buying another one here pretty soon.

I did manage to pull the heads off the screws that hold the shellholder down. It was a very stuck case. Easy fix though.

Sorry this is the best I can do for a explanation.

Joe, thanks again, that pretty much proved to me that I should just let it go as one of those things that will always remain a mystery to me. (You don't want to try explaining a solenoid, either - trust me.) What I did gain from your link that I could understand was the link it gave to co-axial weapons. Thanks again for your patience. Best, John
