I've fretted for some time on not being able to use the Barnes products in my Omega and Triumph. Got this email today from a rep at Barnes. Good info. Reiterates what a few of you have already suggested. (no "I told you so" PMs..*L*)

Scott-
Thanks for the email. There are various muzzleloader bore diameters in the industry. TC rifles seem to have some of the tightest bore diameters and I suspect this is what you have, Our bullet/ sabot can be very tight in some of the smaller bores especially if there is some powder residue still in the bore. Knight markets our bullet with a new easier loading smaller sabot. This could be one option for you. You could also contact the supplier of our sabots, MMP @ 870-741-5019 for sabots of smaller diameter to fit your particular rifle. I think you'll find this to be an issue regardless of the bullet you use. Finding the correct sabot will allow you to shoot the bullet of your choice.

Sentence "I think you'll find this to be an issue regardless of the bullet you use" is complete and utter nonsense, but the rest is good info.

I have been using the Barnes sabots & muzzle loader bullets in my 45 caliber TC Omega with no problems.

Settled on them because I get better accuracy from them than others I've tried, though I don't claim to have tried all the possible combinations out there.

What seems to be the problem?

gldprimr,

If you are getting "Better accuracy" from the Barnes bullets in A T/C .45 you are one of the lucky ones.

Scott

Marty has a solution to the Barnes bullets in the tight bore T/C rifles. T/C bores vary from .499 to .502. Send him a PM.

The application of UBC to my Encore has made the loading of Barnes bullets/sabots a piece-o-cake.

Lawdy-

While I certainly believe in the effectiveness of Doug's product, I don't think that's my answer. I must have the tightest bore ever turned out by TC cuz I couldn't get a Barnes bullet down the pipe with a Sam'sClub-sized tube of KY Jelly and a sledgehammer. \:\)

Some of the guys in our group had the same problem, only with the shockwaves. They stopped using the supplied sabots and went with cruched rib sabots, these load fine and shot good.

I hear ya. I still have bark in the end of the ramrod and little round circles in my palm from those bastids pre-UBC.

I wanted to shoot the Barnes bullets and thought it was worth trying the UBC and it worked for me. Also must add, at the same time I switched to the Winchester Triple 7 primers. For whatever reason, I have much easier loading.

They shot the same as the supplied sabots. Although a couple guys said they shot about 1/2" higher. Everyone likes the way they load. Dave

I also can't get the Barnes bullets down my TC Omega, but the TC Shockwaves load with no problem.

Solution: I use the 250 Shockwave. The good part is they shoot 1.00" - 1.25" real consistantly with (2) 777 magnum pellets.

Velocity is around 1955.

Deadly combo out to 200.......

Should add...I shoot the 250 Barnes EZ Expander out of my SUCKS 700ML.

(2) Pyro pellets and the EZ expander get a no schit under 1" group. Velocity is the low 1800's.

SD is in the low single digits.

Barnes has a new T EZ bullet coming out in the next few weeks that is a tipped bullet with a flat base. The sabot is .002" smaller than thiere other ones. It should work well in the tighter bores.

Tom,

I could not get my 700ML stainless to shoot and "Sold' it for $200.00. I congratulate you on your 700ML groups with the Barnes bullets.

Doc, I'm suprised to hear that.
I have personal experiance with 4 of em, 3 .50's and 1 .45 all of em shot sub MOA.
Some of my hunting pards used to have the Rem 700ML and decided to go to easier MZ's for cleaning purposes (such as T/C encores) they arent as accurate as their Rem's were and wish they never got rid of them.
I am right now kinda half heartedly searching for a NIB Rem 700 in .45
