Other than swapping them out, is there anything that needs to be done to swap to a newer style safety? I just don't like the idea of loading/unloading ammo with the safety off.

Thanks,

Dan

That's what I figured, but wanted to confirm. Thanks Rick!

I thought the bolts were notched in the rifles with the old style safety??

They were...but that would only cause a problem if you were installing the bolt lock feature on an newer bolt without the slot.

Top (silver) bolt has the slot...bottom one doesn't.

The top bolt is from a C-series receiver and the bottom is from a newer G-series.

Remington continued slotting the bolts and the receivers for awhile for the bolt stop even after they stopped using it.

Don't need to swap safeties, just cut off the piece that reaches up through the receiver to the bolt notch.

Also true...but doing that just leaves another exposed part that can collect dirt and grime while not doing anything but sitting there.

The safety levers, and even the complete newer triggers don't cost that much and are readily available.
