You forgot to tell them about your bottom metal.
This is njs1230, my mentor, shooting/hunting partner and funder of many projects(g). My much older brother from another mother.

Welcome to the fire. .400 very nice. Now ;go prove the naysayers wrong. There is indeed enough shoulder. Bear

Hey Neal,
I have a 400 Whelen also, but with the 40 degree (AI) shoulder.
It's an incredible round. I took it to Tanzania in 2006 for a one gun hunt....buffalo, hippo, hartebeast, etc.
I.T.&D made my barrel, so it's closer to .410 than .411, but I shoot .411 bullets exclusively.
As you probably know, Quality Cartridge mades headstamped brass, but you will have to neck ream after you size it from the cylindrical form it arrives in.
After you take some game with this rifle, you'll wonder how you lived without it.
Great choice, and nice rifle. Can't wait to hear about your next hunt with it.

Thanks for the replies, from what I've done so far the headspace issue is indeed an old wife's tale Neal
