I am conducting research foe a magazine article I am writing (and hopefully selling).

My questions concern favorite calibers for various jobs. These can include factory and wildcat rounds. I will publish the results when a reasonable sample is in hand.

1) What is your favorite caliber for any job?

2) What is your favorite caliber for coyotes?

3) What is your favorite caliber for deer & black bear?

4) What is your favorite caliber for elk?

5) Favorite African caliber for all-around?

I'll take a swing.

My sentimental favorite is the 30-30 since I've still got the little Marlin 336T my Grandpa and uncles got me for my 14th Christmas. Grandpa's been gone for a long time now and I almost get a bit misty eyed when I think what that 30-30's seen. Anyway:

1. 7mm Rem Mag. With modern premium bullets it's mice to moose.
2. Never hunted 'yotes but if I had to 140gr see #1.
3. 30-30 deer in the woods, 7mm for the rest. Consider .340 for the black bear but it's more than needed.
4. The 7mm with 160gr Barnes TSX's is absolutely adequate but I'd probably use the 340 with 225 TSX's.
5. Never been to Africa but if I could carry only one caliber there it'd probably be a .416.

5. Have not been there and probably will not make it. If I was going I would have something along the line of the 375 H&H.

I have and load for all those listed. I have others, but you asked for favorites.
