That's a good question. Our whitetails average about 15 inches from the tip of one ear to the tip of the other when the ears are in the forward aleart position. That is one way to guess-ti-mate antler spread. But there are many more indicators to consider when field judging a buck.
Thanx I know there are may factors, mass being one that can really add up. Just trying to get an idea on spread for my dad. He has 3-4 bucks around his place right now. Saw them last night. 2 are 10 point, one gave him a good alert straight on look and Dad said he was 3-4 inches wider than his ears. Only 1st of July so should have some growing to do. Hoping we can keep him (and his buddies) around till fall. May have to close the woods to bowhunters this year.

Our little Hill Country bucks average about 14" from one ear tip TO THE OTHER ear tip. People usually think they go 16", but I haven't found that to be the norm.
I'm sure your deer are much bigger, but I don't know if their ears would actually be any longer...
