I just used a Stoney Point gauge, and measured (what I think) the cartridge length to be 3.824 minus my usual .050 to get 3.774 OAL. This is to long to fit in the magazine, and way over the SAMMI spec of 3.600. This is the first time I have loaded this rifle and cartridge. It looks like my max length on the magazine is 3.625. That seems like a long jump into lands. What am I missing? Rifle is a Sako AV, Bullet is 260 Grain Accubomb. Thanks. R.

I have to seat mine to 3.58 due to a short mag box. No problem, the rifle still shoots very well. Load it to SAMMI, go forth and kill stuff.

Rman, Just seat your bullets to the mag length, and settle on that length. You will find that accuracy will be sufficient even with the bullet more than .050" off the lands. Most 375's have a fair throat length, so you won't be able to seat them close to the lands anyway. (The magazine will be the governing factor.) Just as a side note, my rifle is chambered for the 375 Weatherby, and it has .5" of freebore, and still shoots into .75MOA with most bullets. Cheers. MagnumManiac.

Yes, whatever the people said. Also you will find the crimping grooves in the 375 bullets are set at 3.60 OAL.

this is a common occurrence with many calibers. I have numerous rifles that require seating up to 0.075" off the lands. I have not found this to affect accuracy at all.
no worries.

My Wby Mk.V in .375 H&H seems to have a long throat, so I seat bullets to work through the magazine. It will group 300 grain factory TBBCs just under one inch, and my handloads with 260 grain AccuBonds in about 3/4".

I crimp. IMO is helps with consistency. It's also "interesting" to see how bashed the 3rd & 4th round in the magazine get after those first 2 or 3 go off...

I definitely crimp. I didnt think too much of it until I used a kinetic puller to remove the bullet from a dummy round. With my 50gr .223 bullets, you can flail away as hard as you want just to get one bullet out, and wear yourself out doing it. It only takes a couple of moderate taps to get a 300gr bullet out. So I crimp.

+1
The Lee "Factory Crimp Die" is worth its weight in gold for the .375 Ouch & Ouch. (Ther Collet sizing die is great in this calibre too -- I have some cases with more than 20 shots through them using the Collet die).

Crimp. If you don't, you stand the chanch the magazine will push one deeper into the case upon recoil. Since the thing is already operating at a pretty high intensity, this sort of nonsense just puts you in the territiory where ole Murphy can get his mitts on you. Why even think about it. Crimp.
