The Black Powder Cartridge Rifles were the single shot rifles that many hunters, buffalo hunters, and target shooters, used in the 1870's and throughout the 1890's.
One example would be the Sharpe's rifle. Original BPCR rifles are "collectors" and expensive- but so also are the modern replica's.
I just got a "new" Uberti "Springfield 1873 Trapdoor Carbine, 45-70 Govt. But I can shoot "Smokeless" in that one.

The ages ol advice to teenage boys that "if it's got boobs or wheels it'll cost you money and give you grief" needs an addendum to include pipes that burn black powder.

I heard it "if it's got [bleep] or tires it's trouble" ... but not 'til after it was too late to avoid trouble. :-)
So far haven't done the BPCR deal yet but I've had a couple percussion rifles. I think the only thing that's saved me so far is I'm not 100% sure what I want. Definitely a future interest (cross that out, say addiction instead), definitely.

Paul it was pure d honor to get to shoot in the same relay with you and Pete.Always a good time and conversation with you guys. When the wind let you into that buff, it looked to me like those shots at 5 oclock could of been covered with the palm of your hand. The ones going under the bear I'll bet could of been covered with a piece of legal paper according to the dirt spray . I ordered from Baco a Lee shaver level front sight (the big fat one) and have installed it on Carols rifle. I think the larger sight combined with the level to remind her not to cant the rifle will do wonders. We'll give it a try sometime this weekend, and then give it the test at Ekalaka next week. Looking forwards to seeing you next spring, and don't forget to bring me a pair of your cleaning rods.

BCPR? hmmm how about Big Cow Pizzin on the Road? BPCR= Black Powder Cartridge Rifle= extremely addictive shooting regime, that turns a person into a bullet mold collector and also turns thier residences into probably a superfund sight due to the accumulation of lead for bullets, empty powder cans and spent primer cups. Sight collecting is another devastating side affect. The various debilatating side affects of this desease is also what keeps business's like Buffalo Arms, Sage Outfitters, and numerous other purveyors of quality goods and services fully funded and operational. It's a vicious desease that can devour entire families, and consume all the money they can ever muster, or even hope to gain, even if Warren Buffet left his entire estate to them. Most of all its just plain fun, and allows a person the priviledge of getting to shoot with and discuss shooting with some of the finest folks in the world.
Along with devouring entire families, it can also devour large portions of the space in shooting magazines.

Paul - enjoy. I think that everyone ought to follow what they find fun. Just had to make a reference to the Venturinoization of Wolfe. Best, John

No doubt Venturino has made a name for himself as a gunwriter. Among BPCR enthusiasts, some like him and some don't. Goes with the territory, I guess.
Recently his interests have shifted to - would you believe - machine guns. On some of the BPCR sites he is being called MGM, Machine Gun Mike.

He seems to have become interested in WWII weapons - sort of filling in Al Miller's spot. For my part, I am more interested in the WWII weapons than I am in black powder cartridges, so to me it's a positive. As I said, we all have (and should be allowed) our preferences. Best, John

You're not really hooked till you turn your garage into a lab for making powder with nitrate, flowers of sulfur and homemade charcoal. It's a friggin sickness that sulfur dioxide from the burning powder causes.
It kicks, stinks, makes a lot of noise and is just a hell of a lot of fun like other things like that.

Yes, what Ranch13 said. I had plenty of time until I picked up a 45-90 Sharps recently. It shoots as well as my scoped white powder rifles, and is a whole lot more fun.
