I've been happy with the Garmin 60 Csx. I like the color, and the ability to use a micro SD card to download more detailed maps. I wonder if the Colorado or the Oregon versions with 3D might be a little cooler, though.

I have read a couple of reviews on the 60 Csx-sounds like a good unit. Has anyone used the Triton series from Magellan. Looks like you can download Nat Geo maps at 1:24000 scale right into the unit.

I'm using a Magellan Explorist 600. It preceded the new Tritons. I like the SD card, USB connection and color screen. Battery life is better than I expected and the unit boots up pretty quickly. The Magellan keys and menu are pretty easy to run once you've got the concept down.
The color screen was not something I was looking for but it is a really useful feature in use. It makes orienting to your hardcopy map much easier and allows me to use the GPS map for easy terrain association in varied lighting conditions.
I use Magellan's software for maps and that makes the GPS much more useful. I'd really like to be able to download other maps because the Magellan maps are not always detailed enough or recent enough.

Another I love my 60CSX. I was always a Magellan guy, but wanted a unit I could use on my motorcycle, hiking and most importantly for hunting. Great unit and I have multiple states on it.

I'm late to the party here, but good choice. I have a 60CSX and I can't say enough good things about mine. Love it.

That sums it up-I put new batt in it to get ready for a black powder hunt in a few weeks and on pwr up it came back with "NO POS" I went thru the init sequence to clear that-put it OUTSIDE on my deck rail and 15 min later it had still not locked on a signal-bottom line even when the unit was new my hunting partners with their classic yellow garmin etrex always had more accuracy than my 315. I have a garmin 60Csx arriving today so this should be a huge leap in nav tech for me. In my internet search over the weekend for reviews and diff products I saw a post that said magellen was spanish for "wished Id bought a Garmin" I got a chuckle on that one.
If your 315 is still working for you more power to ya.

Great choice on the Garmin 60csx!!

I love mine. It works under a solid canopy of evergreen timber--something that didn't happen with earlier models. I rely on my GPS way too much (I'm trying to fix that!) and it has never failed to keep me located. I bought aftermarket topo maps software and it isn't too bad--definitely worth the money.

The GPSMAP 60Csx was the right call. Love mine. FWIW I'm associated with civil and military aviation, the GPS of choice for both the civil and military worlds are Garmin.

new 60Csx came in today-first pass looks like its going to be a great unit-question-have any of you 60Csx user had an issue with lithuim batteries? in the owners manual there is a warning NOT to use lithium as the initial voltage may be to hi and cause the unit to shut off.

No I just use Duracells and keep fresh ones with me. Be sure to calibrate the compass after a batt. change.

I just revieved my new Oregon 300. WOW...makes them all obsolete as far as I am concerned. I am a GPS nut and have owned a Garmin 12XL,Geko,60csx,etrex. This blows them all away.
Because of the touch screen it is waterproof submersable. Very intuitive screen, fast button selection, neat features like "relocate this waypoint". You can leave "truck" as a waypoint and just relocate it every time very quickly.
Large visible screen, SD card, compass, barometer etc etc
Lov'in it!!

Welcome to the Campfire Gusto. \:\)

Since you've owned so many GPS units, I've got an open-ended question for you. I've currently got an Etrex Vista but have been considering the 60csx for added speed, reception, and the ability to download topo maps into the unit. Is there anything else "better" about the 60csx I'm missing? Do you know if the Nat. Geograpic TOPO maps will download into the 60csx? I like the size of the Vista (fits in my shirt pocket), but I loose reception a fair amount of the time, and I can only download waypoints, not maps.
Thanks

Just returned from a 53+ Trek in New Mexico with the Garmin 60 (3 or 4 year old unit). Carried linked on the chest strap of my pack. Link was solid and consistent other than when in thick tree cover, thick clouds OR against a canyon wall with limited sky access.

Only complaint was the unit shut off on its own a couple of mornings. I believe this was due to the light setting up to bright by accident lowering the battery level.

The Vista unit is great, but the flat antenna does limit sat link when walking.

I have an Etrex Ledgend CX with a lake maps chip and a contour maps chip.

Got the unit for Christmas, and it came with the lake chip in it. I bought the contour chip.

Pretty nice, it does all I would ever need it to do. It has a color screen and is pretty easy to navigate around the menus.

I put Lithiums in mine and it didn't work. I think heat might be the issue (after researching it). By not work, I mean it wouldn't turn on. Then I switched back to alkaline and presto. It's kind of a pain to keep a spare pair of AAs just for the garmin.
