I am relatively new to reloading and have just started reloading for my 30-30's. I used 30.5 grs Varget, CCI 250 primers, and 170 gr Corelokt bullets in Hornady brass. I tested the loads this afternoon in my Marlin 336SS topped with a Zeiss Conquest 3-9 and was pleasantly surprised with the results. On my 50 yard home test range, it took 4 shots to get it dead on, and I shot literally 5 shots into one hole. WOW!

I am wanting to try other powders and charges, but with this kind of results, I hate to change a thing.

Does anyone have any pet loads that they would share?

RTMan,
If you have a good load, I wouldn't change anything.
I have a load that works in my 30-30 and it's the first one I tried as well. 30.5grs VV N530, win primer, 150gr corelokt. Works perfect on deer and pigs.

My pet load is the Speer 170 gr bullet/Remchesteral cases/CCI250 primers/and 33.5 gr. of W748. I haven't tried the Varget, but maybe this winter.

I wouldn't change a thing, either, retrieverman.

THE classic load pairs for the 30-30 both use IMR3031 powder. Coincidentally, the loads are 30 grains of it with 170-grainers and 31 with 150-gr bullets.

About 30 grains of almost any medium-burning powder will be at least usable in the 30-30. The list of possible propellenats include those mentioned above, plus 4895, 4064, RL-15, Benchmark, W748, H335, BLC-2, AA2230, and several more. With any of them, a grain or so either side of 30.0 is happy-time.

I got 1/2 - 3/4 inch groups out of a Savage 340 with (I think) 31 or 32 gr of IMR-4064 and 170 gr Rem Corelokts. With that little bolt gun, I was planning on using a lighter spitzer bullet, but I could not argue with the results from what I had loaded up for my Model 94!

I've got an old 1894 that likes 150 grain Partitions and 3031. I just plugged the magazine tube so it only holds one in the barrel and one in the magazine, but with the fine bead front sight and the target aperature in the rear sight it shoots right at 1 to 1 1/2 inches at 100, with great results on Whitetails.

I used to load a 170 Grain Nosler flat nose, solid base, boat tail ahead of IMR 3031. It was very accurate. Of course Nosler discontinued the bullet.

The Speer 130 grain FP has a good ballistic coefficient for its weight and configuration and can really be zinged out of a 30-30 with BLC2.

Nosler still sells a 170gr Partition for 30-30.

It's about the only round I don't reload. This time of the year most big box stores has 30/30 ammo on sale for around $8 a box. I just don't get excited about reloading when I can buy pretty good stuff for that price.

Hard, I found 2 boxes of that Nosler SBBT and have used it in my 300 Savage 99 at about 2500 FPS very accurate and complete blow through both shoulders with controlled expansion. Range was 100 yards, he went 20 yards and fell over. I would buy more of that bullet. Do you want me to send you 20 of them to load a box?? Mark.

I get superb accuracy in the 30-30 with IMR 4064 powder. In fact, IMR 4064 is the accuracy powder for many cartridges.

Stay with what you got...One holers are hard to find.

I personally think you have way too much scope for a 30-30 as it cannot take advantage of more than 4X max..and a nice 2.5 or 3X is nice on a 200 yard deer gun, and that is what a 30-30 is..
