Very good read, thanks Stetson. Wasn't too impressed with Michael Moore visiting though. I think I read somewhere his wife has goat farm too. From an old goat farmer, impressed me.

Coming this fall on PBS with the great clogged one, Mark Bittman and gwnyth Paltrow. The trailer looks pretty interesting. After the recent discussion of knives here check out the knife being used on the Tuna. You can be sure that's no Cutco! http://www.spainontheroadagain.com/ Looks good, but I'd prefer it if he stuck with Itliano.
That was an impressive knife, by the way. Talk about specialized!

That is a disassemble tool. It looks like an overgrown Knives of Alaska Skinner/Cleaver. When I have some extra money and can lay in some steel to grind for the Winter (and a nice Evenheat kiln), I'll be making myself one. I've enjoyed Mario's books, and gotten a lot of good information from them, but I have trouble watching him on tv. I'd often wonder where he dug up his guests for his cooking show. They're trying to rev up his appeal with the pretty girls I see. Hopefully, it won't be too highbrow and dull.

The pretty girls in this case are from or grew up in Spain and speak the language fluently. Howevever I don't doubt your right about a little eye candy helping the ratings. PBS can probably use all the help they can get competing with TFN etc. Sassy I cringed about MM too but Marios place is just North of Traverse City and they are getting to be well known for their film festival. It's really no suprise that Mario would have the celebs over for a party after. Recently Madonna and MM were there. I'm no fan of either but right now some of theese cities need all the help they can get with our economy.

It is always nice to get a little info on a person of interest. Sad to see that he hangs with lefties like Moore, but that is to be expected of anyone with celebrity status these days.
I have a couple of his cookbooks, and have enjoyed a few of his recipes. To me, they are old standards, just fancied up a bit with different ingredients and presentations.

I have no idea if he "hangs out" with lefties or if it's just business. I once did a party for the Winston Cup drivers wives and Tom Cruise showed up. Add about a jazillion other muscians, celebs etc. along the way including Michael Jackson. Business and personal time are very different and if you expect to go far in this field you have to learn to seperate the two. Mario is easilly (IMO) one of the best true working celeb chef's.

yeah, I realize that celebs hang with celebs. My guess is that Mario is probably a lefty as well.
Still, that does not detract from his sharpe and accurate business sense, or his true talent at not only cooking, but in marketing. I like him more than most of the high profile chefs.

Sam not to split a fine hair but your responding to me and quoting yourself. Your post makes it appear as though that quote may have been in my post and I just want to clarify it was not. I doubt any of us here have any real input on Marios political views, not that I think it matters much.
