Someone posted on here about these packs a while ago. Anyone have a link or better yet anyone have actual experience with one?

Still looking for the "right" pack.

I had a Wilderness pack which uses the same frame. It was nice, but I moved on. They have a website and Cameron Haines of Eatmans Journal uses it. Good luck on your search!

Here's a link the the pack.

Cameron Hanes can make ANY gear look very doable, so I'm not sure how great the pack really is.

It looks a lot like the an civilian version of a ALICE pack, mounted on a nylon MOLLE frame. May be an OK pack, but I'd rather have the mil-surp pricing and construction.

Ken,

I really DONT need another pack, but the ultimate pack just caught my eye. I currently have a MR crew cab, and a Kifaru Zulu military pack. Oh and a old Gregory that has packed out sheep and goat. So I should have my head examined for even thinking about another pack...at least my wife thinks so.
I am leaving for a solo high country mule deer hunt Friday. I am taking the Zulu even though it is a little small. I cached some stuff up in my area already (stove fuel, ground cloth, freeze dried food and fleece parka, extra batteries, etc.) Hopefully Yogi hasn't found it. Anyway will be carrying up two days worth of food and with the cache hope to stay five days. Have packed out deer with the Zulu and cargo chair so know it will work. Just have to survive the lightning storms and find mr. 30"!

LC,
Sounds like an admirable and worthy adventure! I too have been sent to gear rehab by my wife!

lefty, what area are you in? I hunted Holy Cross a few years ago, the only 30" I saw was 30" of rain.

I examined the Hard Core pack in a shop the other day. The concept is nice. I was not real impressed with the suspension; the military suspension is more solid, IMO. Seems like you could get a surplus or craiglist MOLLE frame and harness for dirt cheap.

The Hard Core meat sling does seem pretty nice.

Overall, the Hard Core (or any MOLLE frame) is a caught-in-the-middle pack. Will it be better than a beefed up day pack to haul out a heavy load? Yes. As good as a true pack frame, or high quality internal? No. Easier to hunt in all day than an external? Yes.

What the Hard Core would excel at would be day hunts with high probability of success. Hunt with the meat sling and a small duffle with your day gear; then you are ready to haul out the first (or only) load. But then your MR Crew Cab covers that function, no?
