Howdy gents. I recently got hold of a Winchester 88 carbine (19" barrel). It has the old flip-over mount and has a 1.5 x 4.5 old weaver variable on it. According to serial # it dates to 1970. It is 308 caliber. Are the carbines that much more scarce than the standard 22" rifle versiion of the 88. Thanks!

As with all rifles, the carbines are more scarce than regular rifles; as fewer were produced. If my sources are right, the total number of Model 88 rifles produced were 256,022 and total number of 88 carbines were 28,330. And carbines command a higher price! Congrats on your new piece!
