Buddy called and has a chance to buy a Winchester 101 20 ga field model with 26 inch barrels fixed choke M/IC in about 85 to 90% range.
What is this gun worth?
We looked it up in the Blue Book and I think the value in there is low. I told him, if I could find one for the price the book shows I would buy 2 more to go with the one I already have!
The value in the book was about $500 best as I remember.

thanks

They are a slick way to go for price... Winchester stated in writing quite a while back that steel could be shot through them without concern. I have seen 12s for not much over 500 but the 20s are a lot less common here and the asking has been higher on them.

Factory doubles with choke tubes made a lot of those older double guns less costly...

I can never buy for Biue Book, it seems. Or sell, either. \:\)

I always liked the handling of the 20 gauge 101s.

the blue book does not have names and phone numbers in the back with a list of people willing to buy or sell at the prices they are quoting.....

wish it did....

500 bucks for a 101 in 20 is a good deal IMHO, as long as its not all beat up. I REALLY like those guns, my bud has one and the very 1st time I shot it I ran 50 straight on skeet with it.

Id be all over that!

I also just came into an opportunity to trade for a 101. It is 20 ga 26" barrels no vent rib and no winchokes so I think it is an older Gun also made in Japan. I do not have the serial # only looked the gun over briefly. The gun was in 99% condition the owner has never fired the gun . Would like to know any info about the gun Dates, Quality, values,, or anywhere I could research the gun. I do not collect but have several pre 64 working Winchesters and thought this would only add to my others. The trade is for 3 days labor so its hard to beat thanx for your input DWG7

Sitka Deer,

Do you recall if the Winchester memo regarding steel shot in M101's stated that steel shot was OK for all M101s regardless of DOM?

500 is low for a 101, very low for a 101 20 gauge. 26" barreled guns will sell for a little less but 20 gauge 101's are usually much higher. I've been kicking myself for passing one up priced at $900. The only reason I hesitated was it had a broken firing pin. It was gone two days later.

Carbon12
The Winchester letter said ALL 101 shotguns. It detailed the steel used in their barrels and the hardening characteristics and standards they used.

Sitka deer,

Thanks for the update. I had stopped using my 101 for waterfowl because I was afraid steel shot would FUBAR the barrels.
